Nice quiet place on Arbutus, just off the bus route. Croissants a little different, more bread-like. Ordinary coffee. Friendly people. Nice view of street. Grind their own coffee. Make their ice cream. Restroom. Soft music on old classic stereo.
I’m an east van girl, but I was early for a doctors appointment this morning so I slipped into this place for a coffee and a light breakfast. What a delight! Such a sweet, tidy, and eclectic ambiance and such a delicious coffee and croissant. Also the best background music I’ve heard in a cafe for a long time; mellow without sounding old fashioned. Almost tempted to move to this neighborhood so I can patronize Sweet Barrel more often. I’ll definitely aim to be early for...
Love this place - great coffee, excellent pastries. Given poor experiences elsewhere in the neighbourhood (namely the trainwreck that is Platform 7), Sweet Barrel is a warm, delightful surprise. Thank you for everything that you do.
