Our 9 month old baby was considered a diner so that the group automatic gratuity of 20% could be charged. We had 5 diners eating, and 1 baby who did not eat anything, stayed in my arms the whole time, and did not require any additional clean up. The automatic gratuity is added to groups of 6 or more. Disappointingly, the service was subpar, nowhere near worth 20%, so the auto gratuity feels like a cash grab.We had a couple of good rolls, but don’t recommend ordering outside of the rolls section. We have eaten at the Eatery many times, and General Public once before. The experience left such a sour taste in my mouth that I don’t think I’ll be going back to GP again.Kid-friendliness: Has baby change table. Noise level was fine for daytime dining. Do not recommend bringing babies as ours was considered a diner and charged extra even though she didn’t eat anything or require any cleanup

22% auto gratuity… we had a table of six and got slapped with a 22% forced tip on our bill.Ontop of that our server handed us the machine with the tip prompt up on the screen. She never mentioned the auto grat on the bill, so if I hadn’t noticed it we would have tipped twice. The sushi was average, definitely not worth the price you pay.

Celebrated my birthday a few weeks ago at General Public on February 9 and overall it wasn't the best experience.Reservation was originally for 8 people (requested on Jan 11) and had to increase it to 11 people (requested on Jan 25). I received no email response to confirm the increased group size, so I emailed them again on Jan 31 and also received no reply. I called General Public to confirm on Feb 3 and the server there assured me someone would call me 1-2 days before the day of the reservation to confirm. Surprise, no one called. We arrived on the day and time of the reservation and they didn't have our table setup (they sat us on the patio first to wait) for 11 people. Additionally, they negligently sat some people directly adjacent to our table and it wasn't big enough for our group. Also want to note there was an automatic 20% autogratuity which is absolutely fine BUT the servers did not let us know ahead of time. We luckily noticed it before. Most of us had worked in hospitality before and would always let the table know so we don't accidentally double tip.All that said, the food was good and I love the ambience. Maybe a good spot for smaller walk-in groups. I won't bother if you are trying to book something for more than 6 people because they are not equipped to handle it.

Great food and vibe. Very eccentric and lots to look at/ talk about while you're there. Sake Margarita's are great.

Food bad, atmosphere okay, service great. Had high hopes for some tasty food here … Tempura was good, but the mains we had were dreadful. Noodles on a plate and tofu/rice donburi, tasting worse than a fast food cafeteria. Order with caution ⚠️

Super shocked it was sushi! Feels like a mexican restaurant/ bar.Cool vibes but be prepared it’s loud as I think it’s more of a lounge type setting.Sushi was good but of course nothing amazing! I would come back as it’s a good chill spot to come with friends!

There hasn’t been a review since Oct, 2022? Use this review as the latest, without a doubt some of the best and unique food the four of us have had in Vancouver for a while. Not a “sushi” restaurant but Japanese fusion. Will drive all the way from N Vanc just to have the panco crusted prawns in chili sauce and Japanese Fortress. For dessert deep friend Mars bars. Everything else was amazing, our server Sabrina was first class. Looking forward to being a regular and bringing all our friends.

Close at 10.30pm, and they start to kick us out at 9.20pm, the server was being polite saying that it will be close when our table leaves, we still had half of our drinks, but at 9.40 a rude girl gave us attitude saying she need to close the door so we have to go, we still have our drinks unfinished we say okay, and she repeat herself that she needs to close the door so we have to leave immediately. We could understand the situation but not the unpolite way the girl talked to us. drinks was okay, food was okay, atmosphere was okay.

General Public is a unique spot for sushi lovers! the quirky and fun décor featuring LEGO creations might seem a bit unexpected but adds a playful charm to the ambiance. Beyond the creative decoration, their menu shines with fresh, flavorful sushi rolls and sashimi. It's an intriguing mix of excellent food and quirky décor that makes this place stand out. Service is attentive, and the staff is well-versed in their offerings. For a memorable sushi experience with an amusing twist in décor, this place is worth a visit!

We dined out - hence the neutral atmosphere ranking. I gave the service a 3 only because although staff was very pleasant, the payment started at a suggested 18% tip (with the comment that it’s a “good” tip… then went up). Only reason for the review is that the food is pretty awful. The sushi is good enough - I suppose if that’s all you order you’ll be okay…paying more for the variety and uniqueness of the spot than for the taste. We only ordered a few other dishes - chicken karage - SOoo greasy - and a Japanese curry. The latter has the consistency of a gravy made from far too much corn starch. The noodles, as well as veggies, are grossly overcooked - really disappointing. I was so looking forward to a good curry - what a mess I got instead.

Horrible service and disrespectful waitress. I went with my daughter and partn and mother in law and we ordered our food and i asked if my daughter udon noodle soup could come first she said she see what she can do. then all sushi and fried chicken came and no noodles . I asked when her noodles would come because she super hungry she said hot food comes last and i said we got fried chicken alre and why no noodles then. we finished the rolls and still no noodles then I asked waitress again she started to blame kitchen and said there slow and a English barrier. I said but we are almost done are meal and my six year old just wants plain udon noodles. then waitress wasn't too nice to us did not apologize and then when the noodles finally came they were all cut up. at that point I thought it was a joke. We were soo disappointed. we have eaten there before and has been ok service but I will not recommend this place for service.
