My friend and I each paid for coat check for two coats. At approximately 2:30 a.m., we returned both tickets to the attendant:

1. My friend needed to retrieve her keys from her coat to give to me.
2. I intended to collect my coat as I was preparing to leave.

Your staff brought out only my friend’s coat. After she retrieved her keys, we were informed that she would need to pay the coat check fee again if she wished to leave her coat and remain inside. Although we found this unusual, we paid the fee again without dispute.

At no point, however, was my coat brought to the counter. Instead, your staff insisted that we had not handed in the second ticket. I respectfully ask that you review your surveillance footage, as it will clearly show that both tickets were presented.

What followed was even more concerning. The coat check staff argued with us and refused to acknowledge the possibility of their own mistake. Security staff, including Thomas and Ruby, were called. We were told that it was “policy” that all clients surrender tickets at closing and that our coats would be returned at the end of the night once all tickets have been redeemed and our coats would be the only ones left.

Because my friend had work the following morning, she needed to leave. I remained until approximately 3:45 a.m. Despite nearly all guests having retrieved their belongings, your coat check staff still refused to return our coats. During this time, they made unprofessional remarks about my friend and responded dismissively when I pointed out that their comments were inappropriate. I was then instructed by Thomas not to speak further with the coat check staff. Moments later, I was told I would not be permitted to retrieve our coats that evening and would need to contact management the following day.

This situation escalated unnecessarily due to what appeared to be either a lack of basic procedural understanding or a refusal to admit an obvious error. Matching a numbered ticket to a coat should be a straightforward process. Instead, it resulted in withheld property, argumentative behavior, and inappropriate staff conduct.

I have generally had positive experiences at The Roxy, and I believe many members of your team represent the establishment well. However, the conduct and competence demonstrated by the coat check staff that evening were unacceptable and reflect poorly on your business.

This club demonstrated the extreme case of racism in Canada BC, when they assaulted us without explaining any reason. They have employees who are trained to assault their customers on the road before explaining any reason.
We will talk to our lawyer regarding this incidence.
