Rendang wasn’t rendered. The curry was too loose around the beef and the beef… the cuts were too fatty. Should use a brisket for this dish ideally. Then the green curry chicken… mystery meat. Low grade meat for this price. Roti canai were dry. Lifeless. No love in this meal. Last time I’m there. Used to love coming here. Sad. Gone downhill. Pricey yet problems in the kitchen.

Childhood memory. Service is ok not super friendly but it’s normal as most HK restaurants service are similar to the Vietnamese service. This is their culture. I like their interior design and atmosphere. The portion is very small.I ordered Thai chicken feet and half of the plate is lettuce. Wont order this dish anymore.

I think the identity of this restaurant can be summed up in one word: "confused". Very boldly it touts itself as Malaysian, Indonesian, and Thai food -- which I didn't think to be weird at first, because if you went to somewhere like Jalan Alor in MY, you'd see those cuisines together because those populations all live so nearby. From the front of the door, a sign tells you to expect a truly tropical southeast asian experience. But the dining experience really falls flat.Let me tell you: if you are not at all well-versed in South East Asian Food, Tropika is /fine/. The food is okay. But it's just, I wouldn't call that a Southeast Asian experience. In the first bit, no signature beverage from any of the three cultures mentioned in their signage were present -- no teh, nor bandung, nor thai milk tea, and the staff didn't know what it was either. Their star drink is a Lychee and Coconut Milk cocktail, which has no ties to anything, and if you look it up, its roots come from the American who invented the Pina Colada. So I truly do not know why.Secondly, I don't think they know what the flavors are of the dishes they were aiming to make. I ordered an Assam Ayam, chicken in Assam sauce -- it's supposed to be fragrant, savory, sour, sweet, and spicy all in one, with strong presence of coriander. What you get instead is watery boiled chicken in slightly sour tomato broth with some lemongrass and coconut milk. Did it taste bad? No. But what was this... It was like, confused if it was supposed to be Filipino Sinigang or Tom Yum without kefir leaves. It had tomatoes like Assam sauce, but it's so far from what it's supposed to taste like. And it's so disappointing because assam sauce dishes is a favorite of mine.Roti Canai was fluffy and delicious; the curry sauce was only pleasant and not strong. Nasi goreng too was decently good, and Pisang goreng also were fine, though served more like a wicked oreo (in that it is dunked in pancake batter and deepfried) ala mode.I think to summarize my thoughts and feelings of eating here, it's an okay place to go if you dislike the strong flavors of southeast asian cuisine, but want to partake in something new anyway. However it is a bad representation of southeast asian food. It's as if though it feels too shy to really introduce what southeast asian flavors should be. Maybe it is too scared to offend the uninitiated.Anyway, lackluster experience. I regret going here.

I used to eat here but there are a lot better Sing-Ma-Thai restaurants in the city. I ordered delivery today just because I remembered this as a safe choice but I was very wrong. The food was very disappointing. The roti canai was rubbery and the dipping sauce was watery and tasted off.The pineapple fried rice had a total of 5 diced pieces of pineapple bits. Lets be real here, it isn’t freshly chopped pineapple they are using. How expensive could canned pineapple be? The rice itself tasted off as well. Could it be their curry sauce? I could not eat more than two spoonfuls. The only positive were the chicken satays. But it did not save how bad the other dishes were.

Malaysian, Singaporean, Indonesian cuisines rendered for the Vancouverite palate draw a crowd on most days. We have been patrons there for years, no, decades. The dining room is intimate but not cramped. The staff has always been efficient.

Tropika is one of my favorite restaurants in the city and I hope it continues to thrive as it's sort of an institution along the Cambie corridor area. I had the Randeng curry with beef and it was yummy, but the char kway teow is my absolute favorite, (flat rice noodles with seafood and chinese sausage). Sorry if i spelled it wrong. It gets a bit busy in the lunch and dinner services so we tried delivery this time, will definitely be adding them to our top takeaway list!Vegetarian options: veggie dishes - tofu, no meat dairy freeDietary restrictions: Vegan, gluten free rice noodle options, rice dishesParking: Street payKid-friendliness: Kids welcome

I grew up eating at Tropika and it’s been a childhood favourite ever since. They had a location in Richmond many years before and unfortunately it closed down. When my friend suggested that we dine at Tropika on Christmas Day, I was excited to go. We ordered our favourites Pad Thai, home style chicken, sambal beans and clams. Food wasn’t quite the same as I remembered it but it was decent. However, the chicken was so dry that it felt like it was cooked twice. I couldn’t even poke my fork in it to pick one up - I had to jab it in. I mentioned it to our server and all he said was he will speak to the chef. Didn’t hear anything back. We asked for the bill and he asked if we wanted to take the chicken home - I said how can we take it home it’s so dry and not edible? Our server didn’t say anything but just proceeded to clean up. Had it been any other restaurant, an apology would’ve been issued or they would have asked to bring a new one, or compete the dish. Both service itself and the quality of food was a big disappointment. I won’t be returning and do not recommend this establishment.
