Haven’t been back here in almost a decade, and honestly… it’s better than I remember. Still a bit on the pricey side, but some dishes definitely justify the splurge. The star of the night? The Wagyu Temaki — that Miyazaki wagyu was insanely tender, practically melting the moment it hit my tongue. The rest were solid, though I’d probably skip the mentai renkon next round.

• Assorted 5 Kinds Oden
• Mentai Renkon - Deep-fried spicy cod roe-stuffed lotus root
• Giant Scallop - Giant scallop with soy sauce & butter
• Nasu Pork - Eggplant wrapped in sliced pork with sea salt
• Negima - Chicken thigh and leek with teriyaki sauce
• Wagyu Temaki - Charcoal-grilled Miyazaki wagyu with wasabi
• Beef Tongue - Beef tongue with salt & pepper
• Garlic Beef - Beef with teriyaki sauce & garlic chips
• Mentai Carbonara Udon - Pan-fried udon, a half boiled egg with spicy cod roe , cream sauce, green onion & seaweed

Zakkushi is my favourite restaurant in Vancouver. The staff were efficient and courteous, the food is PHENOMENAL if you're into grilled meats and other grilled food.

The hype is definitely worth it. Everything we ordered is simply delicious, and the atmosphere is authentic and cozy. Service is friendly and quick.

Definitely recommend making reservation ahead of time as the joint is fairly small.

Portion is relatively on the smaller side for the price you pay. I’d only consider this place for social occasions.

been coming here since their soft opening years ago, food is quite decent.

One thing I absolutely do not like is their time limit, which seems to be the trend among Japanese izakayas nowadays.

I went back!! The food is good and authentic. Service is quite good. We first got sat at the bar which is a dead zone. We asked to be relocated and they did to a little cute cozy 2 seaters thankfully!

This used to be one of my favorite restaurants when I lived in Vancouver. I was really looking forward to coming back, but this time the taste wasn’t quite what I remembered. Some of my favorite dishes are no longer on the menu, though some of the new special items were actually pretty good.
I had a small issue with the food quality, but the waitress was very polite and helped me right away. The food was a bit disappointing overall, but the service was even better than before. Really appreciated the staff’s kindness!

Food was great, the staff very kind and friendly, I believe we got there in their Not so busy hour so we got in pretty quick but we were asked if we had reservations so I believe it gets packed. The place is small, dim lights, and very nice atmosphere. What I loved the most is that they walk you out and wish you a great day almost like when you leave a family member’s house when you have not seen them in a long time, only thing was left out is giving you a hug. Great place, great food and amazing staff.

Always good, always busy. Delicious Tsukune, Umeshiso, Yakitori, P-toro etc. Used to cost us about 80 bucks when we ate there, now it's 200 bucks plus so only special occasions. It has gotten very pricy. This time it was a meat on meat, meat vs meat extravaganza. The Orion beer was great! Always good polite service.

You keep sucking me back in with your Umeshiso, Mochi-maki, Garlic Scape and Chicken Heart skewers. I can't say no. I have tried. The Unagi and Salmon nigiri were spectacular.

I really enjoyed this izakaya. The atmosphere was cozy and relaxing, perfect for winding down after a long day. The interior has warm wooden tones and soft lighting that give it the vibe of a small hidden spot in a Japanese alley. It immediately feels welcoming and comfortable, making it a great place to grab drinks and share food with friends.

Let’s talk about the food. The chicken meatball skewers were my top recommendation. They were grilled perfectly with a slight char on the outside, juicy and flavorful on the inside, and seasoned just right without being too salty or greasy. The grilled scallops were another highlight, beautifully caramelized on the surface but still tender and sweet inside. You could really taste the freshness in every bite.

The cheese chicken skewers were okay. The melted cheese gave it a nice richness, but overall the flavor was pretty straightforward and not as memorable as the other dishes. On the other hand, the grilled rice ball was a pleasant surprise. The outside was perfectly crisp, the inside still soft and aromatic, and the little pickled vegetables on the side added a refreshing touch that balanced everything out.

Overall, the food quality was solid, and the presentation was lovely. The staff was friendly and attentive, offering recommendations based on what we liked and making sure our dishes came out quickly. Pricing is on the mid-to-high side, but considering the quality and atmosphere, I think it’s worth it. Definitely a nice spot for casual drinks with friends or a relaxing dinner for two.
