While it did take a few moments for the server to notice and seat us. They were very prompt and attentive throughout our stay.

The portion size for the #2 noodle combo was very large and filled up my partner and myself quite nicely. The noodles had a nice firmness to them, and the thai curry peanut flavour was strong and creamy. Very delicious! The only drawback was the deep-fried food, the pork spring roll, and the fried shrimp with our noodles. It was greasy and had a very oily taste to them. Like when the oil needs to be changed in a deep fryer. Was disappointed in those parts of our meal, unfortunately.

Staff were so friendly but the food was really bad
We won’t be returning but the staff made the experience a bit more enjoyable

Service was good (attentive server) but the food was meh. The hot tea was luke warm at best. The presentation of the food look nice, but the food lacked flavor and was served luke warm, just like the tea.

We were in Chinatown and no Asians were eating there, which should have been an indicator that the food would not be flavorful or very authentic.

Food was great! Won ton is like no other. The veggie noodles are delicious. Not a fan of the eggroll but the fried rice hit the spot. Staff was nice and on top of it. I definitely recommend!

Fan Tan Cafe was easily the worst dining experience I have ever had. I’ve been there twice recently. The first time the waiter left the two tables next to me dirty the entire time I was there. The second time there was dirty napkins left on the floor and rice stuck to table when I sat down. I ordered the wor wanton soup and tea. The tea came luke warm so I sent back and instead of giving me hot tea they added a second tea bag to the same pot. There was another server - a woman - who put her fingers all around the rim of the tea cup so I sent it back. The waiter must have called me “miss” 20 times. Pretty annoying. The soup was okay but when I was half way through the woman came over to my table, really close to me, and asked me if I wanted a to go box when I was in the middle of eating. It was obvious that I was still eating so I said no then shortly after her, the male server did the same thing. I don’t know what I did to deserve such poor treatment but it was very violating - so much so that I wasn’t going to write this because I didn’t want to think about it but I don’t want it to happen to someone else and I get the sense that it’s quite unsanitary there. They really need to update their manners and cleanliness practices.

Food was amazing! The wonton soup was the best I've ever had. The vegetables were fresh.

Loved the atmosphere, restaurant was clean and comfortable seating.
Definitely will be going back!

Got the food to go, and was astonished at how terrible a simple chow mein could be, the chicken was either spoiled or not actually chicken, the pork was also inedible to the point where my family tried a piece and not one of us could swallow it in fact we all had to spit it out. I absolutely love these types of noodle bars but this seriously felt like a tourist trap and violated my mouth. The service was good from my experience and the dude seemed honest and friendly. I had anxiety after even attempting to eat this food as I thought I would become sick. Never once in my life have I seen gray blubbery chicken so it came as a shock. The chow main was also 22 bucks which is astonishing, as most go for around 16 bucks so it was quite the jump, again the noodles were good but wow that chicken was a biohazard

I had a craving for ginger beef, and Fan Tan Cafe was the perfect place. They had some awesome specials but tonight I was having ginger beef. The cafe has a very cool vibe, much cozier than the typical Chinese restaurant. It's a cafe, people! Muted colors, curated abstract paintings, and the low background music - a little bit jazzy, nice listening, good covers by well-known artists. It was like being in a European cafe that happens to serve Chinese food. Wonderful! The owner is an excellent host and conversationalist. And the ginger beef was splendid! Lots of beef and veg. Enough for two meals, so I'm saving the rest for tomorrow. Very cool place.

I haven't been that Fan Tan in years. It is no longer the gem it was. Poor service, dirty dishes and mediocre food.

Great food. Fabulous "Chinese tea". Best spicy ginger beef and chicken fried rice I have ever had (even compared to San Francisco). Try the ginger beef special, the spicy beef and wonton soup are wonderful contrasts. Server was friendly and knowledgeable. Serving was so large, leftovers were plenty for a second meal. We'll be back next time we are in Victoria.

There’s nothing great about this place. Don’t waste your time and energy to wait to be seated even the place is not even busy.
Worst place we’ve ever eaten (at least tried) EVER!

Quite possibly the worst dine in experience of my life. Undercooked (cold) food and underwhelming service. They didn’t even ask how the food was despite my uneaten meal still on the plate. There were guests waiting for a table that went unnoticed so they left, lucky them!
