We were visiting from out of town and decided to try this place based on the great reviews—but sadly, it didn’t live up to the hype. The burger came on a stale bun with an overcooked patty, melted shredded cheese, and canned sweet pickles. My husband ordered the eggs Benedict and said the hollandaise sauce just tasted like plain melted butter. Both dishes were really underwhelming.
Our kids ordered from the kids’ menu, and their meals were basically Wonder Bread with shredded cheese. The Belgian waffle looked and tasted like a frozen, prepackaged one—not fresh at all.
We still left a tip because our server had a good attitude, but the service overall was lacking. Other than dropping off our food and eventually bringing the bill, we didn’t get much attention—no refills on water or check-ins. I understand it was busy, but it was disappointing all around. Cost us $80, very overpriced.
We were also overwhelmed by the smell of urine outside the business.

I had an AWSOME brunch at johns place today! I ordered the Ruben sliders and they were everything I’d hoped they’d be! The fries were so crispy and they were generous with the meat on the sandwiches. My boyfriend ordered the chicken and waffles and was delighted overall and awesome meal I highly recommend

Food was tasty, but not particularly exciting or phenomenal. Atmosphere and service is fantastic, and that's the reason they've been loved for decades (and will continue to be loved for decades more).

This was our first time at John’s Place and won’t be our last. Such a great atmosphere, reasonably priced food in copious quantities, and topping it off was the absolutely stellar service from Shayne. He was so helpful, so enthusiastic, and read our minds when it came to making recommendations. Thanks so much for a great experience!

We had a wonderful lunch at John’s today my mother in law took us there on our trip to the island we are from Australia, we had a great experience the staff were so friendly and entertaining very warm welcoming environment and the food was 10/10. ☺️ I should also add when the staff suggest just one pancake believe them their meals are huge!
Ordered the meat loaf dinner and the eggs benny on cornbread. Both were 10/10. We were pleasantly surprised by the crispy potatoes that come with the eggs benny. Great quality home style comfort food. The complimentary bread was bland but it’s complimentary anyways.
