This is a 5 star spot if there ever was one. Everything is great, but the pork buns are life changing. Eat here!

This is the worst Chinese restaurant I have tried. The food was bland.and tasteless .I took a duo barbecue meat ( duck and chicken)and rice and my daughter asked noodles with tofu and vegetables . Awful!
My wife took a soup with duck the taste was good but the duck was scarce.

Genuine Cantonese Hong Kong style meals catering towards who want authentic HK flavors and even those who leans towards western Chinese flavor. The BBQ meats are excellent, same as the noodles. Service is fine typical small family business they focus on the food but service is slower.

From the outside the place looks questionable but then you get to the front window and your next question is……. Can I have some of that…… and by that I means the crispy, glistening, succulent on display peeking duck or crispy pork Hanging in the window. Then you go inside to see this awkwardly laid out entrance. Beyond that is a bakery display case with the most beautiful looking honey buns and coconut cream buns.
The service is very good. Informative and they are quick to attend. The whole time waves of people line up to order their bakery goods.
I highly recommend anyone who dares to venture into the places which look not too good from the outside, that you visit here. Kevin is amazing and so is his team. I met a lady who was buying a box of baked goods and some of the barbecued. She’s been coming since she was a kid in 1980 when her and her parents immigrated into Canada from the Caribbean.
Try them out. You will love it.

We visited Wah Lai Yuen last Sunday to welcome back a friend who just returned to Victoria after a few months away — and she brought us to this cozy Chinese spot in Chinatown. It’s a bakery and restaurant in one, and the food really hit the spot!
We ordered the seafood chow mein, wonton soup (my fave!), and the BBQ pork and duck. Everything came out fresh, hot, and flavorful. The chow mein was perfectly crispy on the edges and packed with seafood. The wonton soup was simple and comforting — the broth was rich, and the dumplings were soft and tasty. The BBQ meats were savory, tender, and just what you’d hope for from a Chinatown classic.
My friend mentioned they’re especially known for their pork buns, which are usually best when they’re fresh out of the oven in the morning — but they tend to sell out early. Now I definitely want to come back to try those next time!
Overall, the place has that old-school charm, the service was quick, and the prices were very reasonable. A great hidden gem in Victoria if you’re craving authentic Chinese food.

This is the best BBQ pork bun I ever had. I'm looking forward to coming back to Victoria and trying more items from their menu.

Ha. Not a bad place. Not bad at all, heh. Gave us a little bit too much food Had to use external containers to get the money’s worth. Not a bad thing at all kid. Heh. They say “theres always a bigger fish” and I definitely suspect that this restaurant is the bigger fish (?). 🎉. Awesome service however. However. There were kids with ipads who blasted their volume so it was quite the atmosphere. The fortune cookies cursed me for the next 10 years and it said that itll hang me infront of Chinatown, Victoria April 27th 2035 👏😂🎉. Other than that this restaurant is congratulations 🎊. Awesome service.

Very Friendly and wonderful service, the customer keeps walking in, the food is very delicious, the bread /desert are very authentic and traditional. Highly recommend. It may looks less fancy compared to the restaurant around, but once you walked in, it's very welcoming and good dining environment!

I use to come here as a kid, boy the prices have really changed! the Wonton Noodle Soup was delicious and came in a massive bowl with mostly broth. I left full but I don’t think it should have been $20.

Service was not that good and food was okay. It's just not my type. Recommended if you like pork buns, I don't recommend the fried rice.
