8 Houston BBQ Spots Named Best in Texas Monthly 2025 Rankings

Houston once again proves that its barbecue ranks among the best in Texas. According to Texas Monthly, eight eateries from the Greater Houston region were included in the state's 50 greatest barbecue restaurants for 2025. One of them even placed in the top 10. Led by Daniel Vaughn, the tasters visited over 300 places across Texas, testing meats, sauces, and sides without notice. From 120 finalists, 50 were chosen. Here’s what makes these eight Houston spots special.

Truth Barbeque: Top 10 in Texas

Located at 110 S. Heights Blvd. in the Heights area, Truth Barbeque secured ninth place in the state. In 2019, Leonard Botello opened a second store in Houston after opening the first one in Brenham.. They’re open Thursday through Sunday from 11 a.m., but the meat often sells out before noon due to high demand. In 2024, they earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand for a creative menu: whole Carolina-style hog, spiced boudin sausage, and brisket pastrami. Sides like cheesy potato casserole, corn pudding, and coleslaw are made daily. A peppery sauce adds heat. Lines stretch down the street, with guests coming from out of town.
