Robots to Deliver Shake Shack Orders in Los Angeles

The next Shake Shack burger you order in Los Angeles might arrive on robotic wheels.

In a move that blends innovation with "enlightened hospitality," Shake Shack has teamed up with Serve Robotics and Uber Eats to bring sidewalk delivery robots to select LA locations. Customers who order through the Uber Eats app may find their meal delivered by one of Serve's autonomous robots, which have been cruising the city's sidewalks since 2022.

"We're thrilled about our collaboration with Serve Robotics and Uber Eats," said Steph So, senior VP of digital experience at Shake Shack. "This partnership highlights our commitment to leveraging innovation to enhance guest experiences both in and out of Shack."

Serve's robots use advanced GPS and AI to navigate urban obstacles, ensuring orders arrive hot, cold, fresh, and on time. The tech company, spun off from Uber in 2021, has big plans for the future.

"Today's announcement highlights the value of Serve's world-class strategic partnerships as we work to expand our geographic footprint and deploy 2,000 robots across the U.S. in 2025," said Touraj Parang, president and COO of Serve Robotics.

For Shake Shack, which has grown from a single NYC park kiosk to over 550 locations worldwide, the robot partnership aligns with a larger push to integrate technology. The chain has been adding order kiosks to its restaurants, now its top sales channel.
