Wonderful hidden gem in Alameda - come for a traditional sushi experience in an intimate setting.
The small unassuming entry way will make you think you’re breaking into someone’s house but it’s perfect for that intimate feeling as well. Once you find the right door it’s a super chill vibe in a small space. The chef was preparing everything as we walked in and the server sat us down. Some bites could benefit from a bit more salt or contrast in flavor, especially the wagyu piece, which was fatty and needed a little more seasoning to enhance its richness.
The restaurant is a bit tricky to find, with no signage and steep, unmarked stairs leading up to the dining area. Seating can be a little cramped, but the intimate setting is pleasant. Prices are typical for the area, offering good value with many courses and high-quality fish, making it a worthwhile experience for sushi lovers. Overall, Utzutzu provides a refined gastronomic adventure with excellent dishes and service.
