Secret places are exciting. Even more so when you find them off the beaten path in a Gold Rush town... Located inside the Amador City Mercantile, Binz Wines is so easy to miss. But head on through the shop, and enter the coolest tasting room in Amador County. Binz has a "speakeasy" vibe to it; like you've entered a "secret hide-away". That being said, this is not one of those places with low lighting and hushed voices. Quite the opposite. This is a vibrant venue filled with conversation and laughter. The original artwork on the walls is an added delight. On Saturdays there is live music showcasing local talent. Owners Gordon and Virgie Binz are great hosts. Long-time winemaker Gordon makes small-batch wines that are delicious. And the prices are so reasonable for the high quality wine that he makes. We wanted a bit of food to go with our wine. No problem! Virgie handed us the menu from the restaurant next door (Small Town Food and Wine). In no time at all a Cheese and Charcuterie Plate filled with an abundance of tasty bites was delivered to our table. Also on the menu are salads, sandwiches and flatbread pizzas. Our Saturday afternoon was filled with good wine, food, and music. But quiet...don't tell anyone. It's our secret.

We stopped by here based on a recommendation of a friend. The staff were friendly and the food very good. Not a place for big eaters, but plenty for my wife and me. I have the Bird in the Pines, and my wife the chicken flatbread. Would definitely go back.

Small and quaint in the small downtown. Limited menu but food was great. Wine and specialty drinks available. Good service. Excellent desserts.

Actually, the To-Go cocktails in mason jars may be the best! The weekly specials at Small Town are epic. The salads are delish, the deviled eggs and charcuterie boards are must have for any entertaining. The flatbread pizzas are my kids favorites, but very much a fave for adults also. The specials that are comfort food are my faves, like Cioppino or Beef Bourguignon or Lasagna. The french onion soup was to die for delicious. We also have had great success with baked goods, like a remarkable carrot cake for the holidays and brunch eats when dining was open. Thursdays is often a taco plate, and not always the same so I love that their menu is always evolving and fresh and features options for any eater. Vegan, GF, is never a problem for Small Town and that makes it a favorite amongst friends, because we all know we'll have good eats at Small Town.

Tonight’s dinner was superb. I thought take out fish (cod with olives, red peppers, capers, rice, and green beans) would be satisfactory at best, but was delightfully wrong. All was perfectly cooked and sooo delicious. One of the best desserts I’ve had in ages. Can’t wait to taste tomorrow’s dinner.

Very nice small, but quaint wine bar. Nice looking bar and seating is either low tables or high tops. Patio area in front of the restaurant. Awesome Less is More Pizza on flat bread. Crust on flatbread was awesome. Service was excellent.
