Food was very good! Indoor tables were very wobbly and there was a mix up when I ordered my chicken sandwich with fries they thought I meant an extra set of fries so I paid for two bowls of fries. Soda machine was also broken.

We were hoping to enjoy our breakfast here but the reason why we didnt enjoy the food was mainly because of the mediocre service here. We wanted to sit down at the Terrace and he didnt feel like having us there (literally), he told us we could sit down and even if an hour went by, we wouldnt come help us or take our order for food. Dont give your business to this place if you are getting treated like you aren't even worth taking a food order

the service here is AWFUL. Don’t waste your time coming to this place; the view is pretty but the horrible service will ruin your whole experience. Choose from any of the other nice places Avalon has to offer!

I DO NOT recommend this place. The view is very beautiful but the service and food are NOT good. A very racist man works outside who made us feel very uncomfortable with his attention. I wouldn't recommend it, there are many other good places on the island.

The hispanic guy that is in charge of the terrace had a very bad attitude with me and my friends. I am surprised that this level of service is being offered at such a nice restaurant. He made us leave, we didnt want to dine with that bad environment.

wow I am so sad that this was my first impression of Catalina Island and the service provided at this restaurant. this guy kicked our party of six out of the restaurant. he was extremely rude and told us that the restaurant was closed even though it’s 10:30 AM and there’s plenty of people having breakfast. I asked him if he was the owner, considering the attitude that he had with customers., and he told me he wasn’t the owner, but that was “his section”. I hope the owner reads this and double checks the quality of people he has hired because this level of disrespect is not okay.

Topside by NDMK is an absolute gem in Avalon, offering an unforgettable dining experience with a stunning view of the harbor. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm smiles and impeccable service that set the tone for the occasion.

The seafood risotto was the star of the show—hands down one of the best I've ever had. Packed with generous, succulent chunks of lobster and perfectly grilled scallops, the dish was an explosion of flavor. The risotto itself was creamy and seasoned to perfection, complementing the fresh seafood beautifully.

The cocktails were equally impressive—crafted with care and a touch of creativity, making them the perfect pairing for the coastal vibe. I highly recommend the signature drinks, which are as refreshing as the sea breeze rolling in from the harbor.

The ambiance at Topside by NDMK is second to none. The relaxed yet elegant atmosphere, coupled with a panoramic view of Avalon’s picturesque harbor, made for a perfect evening. Whether you're there for a casual meal or a special occasion, this spot delivers in every way.

If you’re in Avalon, this is a must-visit! The combination of incredible food, top-notch service, and breathtaking views will leave you planning your next visit before you’ve even finished your meal.

PS The place was so good we came back for dinner the same day before heading for Long Beach ?

The menu looked amazing. The food was not. There were 4 of us and none of us were happy with our food. The salmon was like a TV dinner version. And the risotto was undercooked and was basically without flavor at all. Highly disappointed. It's a tourist trap. I would stay away.

We came by for some drinks and food. The restaurant has a beautiful view of he harbor. Omar made us incredible unique drinks and excellent company at the bar. The food was exceptional and by far the best we had while in Avalon. The baked scallops were the star. I would highly recommend visiting Topside while visiting Avalon.

Really enjoyed this spot! The food was great and came out fast which was nice because we had to run to our ferry and it was ready in about 15 minutes. We had Jen as our server and she was fabulous! Excellent service.

Best cocktails, my favorite bartender is Omar, make sure to ask for him. He makes amazing drinks, including mocktails. My favorite so far is his Espresso Martini. But he made my cousin one with chocolate and she loved it. Photos don’t capture them fully (it was night).

Nice view over the harbor. So much for the positive aspects.
A lot has to happen before I would recommend this place to anyone. To be fair, most of the dinner places we visited in Avalon are mediocre, none really stand out. But this one is writing a check it cannot cash. The location is outstanding, and it's an absolute pity that they don't make more out of it. The silverware didn't match, water was served in Coca-Cola plastic cups instead of decent glassware (which you would expect from a place that tries to show off like this), and the ledge of the balcony looked like it hadn't been cleaned for a long time - unsavory when you're supposed to eat right next to it.
There was some kind of event going on at the place, which clearly knocked out and near paralyzed the rest of the business. If you cannot support such a large group and also run your normal business, you'll have to sacrifice one of them.
It took 45 minutes before we even had our beverages in hand, all beer on tap was out. We saw a few people come, sit down and leave shortly after, and I wish we had done the same!
We had broiled scallops and the tuna tartare as starters. The scallops were lukewarm at best, all in all rather boring. The tartare was ok, nothing special, pretty bland. Not a micron beyond chopped up tuna with avocado and onion.
We ordered the catch of the day (mahi mahi) with a risotto and bok choi, and the seafood risotto as main dish, hoping that the other negative reviews were wildly exaggerated. They were not. The mahi mahi was overcooked and dry, while the risotto was undercooked, the bok choi didn't deserve its fate at all, looking like a traffic accident on that plate.
The seafood risotto was incredibly unimaginative, in a way just rice in a sauce with a few random chunks of seafood.
This was a dinner of approx 150$ and an absolute disappointment, a waste of money, and frankly a waste of resources. Spend your money elsewhere, you will probably do a lot better. I honestly do not understand how these positive reviews came to be.
