Yes, I said it! They make the best fried chicken!! I've tried the famous fried chicken from Roscoes in the L.A. area, and they are not as delicious as the ones that J's Place makes. Aside from that, though, they make other yummy entrees. Go there and find out for yourself!

Great food and service. You don't find many restaurants serving this kind of food in California. I had fried catfish with red beans and rice and it was delicious. My spouse had the meatloaf and it was excellent also (and I am not a big meatloaf fan). Service was excellent and the staff was friendly. One really cool thing is koolaid is a drink option on the menu (grape or cherry).We will definitely go back.

I went to this place twice in the last four years the food is delicious are you close now because I was looking forward to coming to have something to eat at the end of this month

Having never been, I was really looking forward to their Chicken and Waffles. I drove there and was unable to partake in the experience due to Covid-19. Google trick me and said they were open... I should have called ahead. I'm giving 4 stars wishing it was 5. One day I'll be able to indulge...

Love it great food a place you can enjoy taking your family too .My Family loves the food and the home style cooking.I would advise anyone to go there and enjoy the food

What can't be said about the Soul Food place of Bakersfield. Real southern cooking just like mom's. Now if they would only do grilled cornbread it might be heaven on a dish!!

Catfish tacos... best ever! Comes with steak fries. Husband got meatloaf, black eyed peas and a salad. He lo ed it as well. Kids had the kids combo with chicken and mac and cheese.. they ate all of it. Great experience

i got take out today, food is always good so i give 4 stars BUT the service wasnt there like it uses to be. I tipped $3 but shouldn't have. I waited 20ish min. for my food, it was cold when i got home (i live up the street so there is no way it turned cold in that time frame) i was given sweet tea even though i ordered unsweet and i was also not given the butter and syrup for the waffle.

Tuesday’s Fish Taco special is so delicious!! Servings are big and the service is very good. Very friendly staff
