Stopped by from a trip to San Diego. Ordered pancit canton, pork bbq, sisig, fried chicken and bulalo. Everything was good except for the bulalo. Soup was good but the meat is not tender. Service is bad. I only saw our server 3times. First when she took our orders, 2nd when I asked for the bill and 3rd when she gave our reciept. It was a long drive with 6 kids and we stopped by hoping for a great meal. I dont mind the long wait but the server didn’t even came back to check on us.

max restaurant is the very worst and ugly restaurant I've ever been in my entire life cause they let us waited for 1 hr and 30 minutes before they served our food cause they served first the customer who came before us..this is my first and last time to go to this restaurant very poor services, the food is cold when they served it to us and there's a lot of dishes are missing in the bilao.. I think they should close this restaurant forever cause it's no good, overpricing, the service crew are no good and very slow they don't care about their customers and it's not worth it very terrible and a nightmare to go back there..if there is zero rating I will give them zero.

Highly recommended if you’re craving delicacies of the Philippines. The foods taste almost as good as Max’s Philippines.

Had a great experience at Max’s Restaurant in Bakersfield. Ordered the Pork Sinigang and Halo-halo and it was flavorful and authentic! Anna and the other staff were friendly and welcoming, and the place had a comfortable, family-style vibe. #maxsbakersfield @maxsbakersfield #buzzybooth

Great Filipino food that really feels like home. Food was delicious, prices were fair, and the service was excellent. I ordered pancit canton without shrimp but it came with shrimp. They apologized right away and made me a new one without shrimp. Had to wait a little longer, but they handled it well. Friendly staff and still a spot I’d come back to.

Horrible service. We know its a busy day for them but the least that they could do is inform us about the delay and letting us know about the situation so we wont waste our time. We’re waiting for 40 mins for the food to get to our table only to inform us that it will take another 30 mins, and of top of that, the managers and staff dont even bother to let you know unless you ask them. I’ve been to other locations and the service is great. Hope they can fix this issue, its been like this since they opened

The staff was very polite. The food was excellent. It tasted very similar to the food I had from places in the Philippines. This is my favorite sit down restaurant in Bakersfield.

Pork Adobo and Pancit was not good. Almost every chunk of pork had a bone, or all fat, with very little meat😞. Really disappointed.
Pancit was very greasy and didn’t taste like it was fresh cooked. Again not happy since it cost almost $50.00 for the two entrees and steamed rice.

Wow! The staff is super nice and the food is really good. The one huge issue I have with this place is their small portions. Like we ordered sisig for $21 and it was incredibly small. Like that small that I could probably eat it by myself. We also got kare kare for $26 and it was also small. Our entire bill was $115 just for those ridiculous portions. The service was great, and they offered us water while we waited. The atmosphere is nice with music playing, but the only downside was that nobody was inside. It’s not a bad place as service, atmosphere, and food were all decent; but small portions for a high price is a rip-off.

Chicken was dry. Lumpia were burnt yet tasted uncooked! Over priced. Condiments were dirty. What happened to this Filipino restaurant? Seems like the standards have gone way down. I ate here first back is Dec 2025 it was bad then, and I wanted to give them another chance but boy, same thing and if anything it’s worse. Too bad, I hope the management take an assessment. Why is there no special sauce for the chicken? I thought there’s supposed to be some gravy. The dip for the lumpia they give you way too small amount. So disappointed.
