I hate writing reviews like this, but we have to.This restaurant smelled fishy when we walked in. Usually I leave, but I had been here before so I stayed. On a side note, I stopped going before (2 years ago) because they were way too expensive and I didn't feel welcome.Well they are still expensive but the sushi has gone way down hill. Razor thin cuts of fish on mushy sticky blocks of rice. Had six different fish and they were all equally bad. On the price side yellow tail was $11 and a cucumber role with pencil thin cuts of fish was $20.

Come here, the staff is the absolutist kindest bunch of people!! It was my sone birthday and all the staff wished him happy birthday and they literally turned on a disco rave party birthday song extravaganza, it was amazing!! Food was great and I can say enough of how we all were so impressed with the experience!

The restaurant was nice and open. It was a bit chilly inside. I really enjoyed the raw oysters. However, the fish on the rolls were sliced paper thin and heavy on imitation crab. We accidentally ordered a wrong roll and were scolded by several workers multiple times. Note: do not get confused between the cucumber special and cucumber roll even though they sound identical.

From the moment we stepped into Shoyu Sushi, the experience was nothing short of exceptional. The ambiance of the restaurant provided a perfect setting for an unforgettable dining experience. The highlight of our meal was, without a doubt, the Spicy Tuna Roll. Each bite was a perfect balance of flavor and spice, with the freshness of the tuna shining through beautifully. The rice was seasoned to perfection, and the roll was expertly crafted. In addition to the sushi, we also tried the Chicken Fried Rice. It was a delightful surprise – the rice was flawlessly cooked, and the chicken was tender and flavorful. The dish had just the right amount of seasoning, and the portion size was generous. The service at Shoyu Sushi deserves a special mention. The staff was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. They made great recommendations and ensured our dining experience was smooth and enjoyable.Overall, Shoyu Sushi exceeded our expectations in every way. It's a must-visit for anyone who appreciates high-quality sushi and excellent service. We're already planning our next visit!

Food is very average in taste. Overly priced $16-$19 per roll. Mostly fake crab... so most of what you taste is crab meat mixed with mayonnaise. Look at pictures below. I had to ask for Ginger and wasabi three times. I was ignored. And when I did get to the ginger and wasabi, it was so little and shredded so fine. Everything the offer is greedy and very poor.

We've patronized this sushi house for years and have always had nothing but great service and great sushi. From shrimp tempura rolls to yellow tail sashimi they have always hit the target. The fish has always been fresh. That is why I'm so disappointed in our last visit. Honestly the shrimp is very possibly cut into skinny strips before the tempura cooking because not only have the roll sizes shrunk but the shrimp is so small inside the roll. It was my favorite sushi house to take my mother. It was a special treat from time to time. Now that the portions have gone to an unacceptable point and decreased in size I find it hard to believe we will return. We were served by a waitress that reeks of her last cigarette break and when you're ready for a meal that is the last thing you want to encounter as plates and utensils are placed in front of you. It's off putting, to say the least.

They say gluten free but hardly anything on the menu is. Will not go back. Also overpriced

Love it probably my favorite sushi spot in Bakersfield. The 911 is my favorite and can't go wrong with the nigiri either.

Would give this ten stars if I could! Absolutely the best sushi in Bakersfield. Owners are lovely people and the rest of the staff is amazing as well. You will be well taken care of here don't pass this place up!

Have you ever tried rolls (fish) with teriyaki sauce? Then this is definitely the place for you! Do you have an extra $100 and a desire to throw the dishes in the trash? You decide! I do not recommend this establishment to anyone! Wasted time...wasted money...? Disgusting!

Place was really good but they need to update their website to reflect their current prices. Placed an order, based off their website prices, and my order ended up being $10 more than it should have been due to the prices being higher than posted. Other than that service and food were great.
