Bob's Well Bread at the Ballard Store offers a nice vibe and cute setup in this little town, though it can be a bit pricey for what you get. The pain de chocolate, ham and cheese, and granola are all good, but the granola portion size is on the small side for the price. The owner's yelling at customers who didn't stand properly in line, likely due to the poorly managed line setup, could be improved with a more polite approach or clearer signage.
The baguette, blueberry scone, and coffee are highly praised, but the restaurant seems to have consistency issues, with the second visit's cappuccino tasting like it was made by a machine. The turkey sandwich was served on extremely hard and tough bread, making it difficult to eat. Some staff members, like the register woman, can come off as pretentious and unfriendly, while others, like Cesar, are warm and welcoming.
While the canalé, olive fougasse, pear & crème fraîche tart, and mushroom toast are enjoyable, the avocado toast was extremely burnt, with the customer only able to taste char. The owner, Bob, is often described as mean and unfriendly, which contrasts with the otherwise pleasant baked goods and cozy atmosphere. The lattes are a standout, drawing regulars despite the occasional service issues.
