The best German food in Berkeley. Anja is the warmest, kindest, and most caring chef in the world! She and her team turns out pastries that are not too sweet, and her dishes are always sourced locally to be the freshest! I can always count on Anja’s to walk out with a smile :)

Nice little place along University. Come here if you miss Gaumenkitzel, or even if you don’t. Anja was the chef who turned out all the fabulous food there, and is now serving some of it here. Draft beer, patio. I can’t wait for her Christmas specials.

Love coming here for a good cup of coffee and a pastry. It's so peaceful to sit out in the back rose garden before the hectic work day starts. Treat yourself, slow things down and come in to enjoy the kind German hospitality from Anja.

Wonderful arugula and beet salad with a delicious omelet/biscuit and the best freshest smoked salmon I've tasted in years 👌

If you never went Gaumenkitzel I’m sorry.
So happy to see Anja’s open. Really nice light breakfast and I need to come back for lunch.
I one day hope to eat jaegerschnitzel again.

For breakfast I had egg potato muffins, smoked salmon, and rosemary and cannellini bean soup. The outdoor seating at the back of the store is the Rose Garden, which is shared with Butcher's Sun and Rose Pizzeria. You can feel elegant from the morning.
The small storefront makes you feel like you're in Anja's kitchen. She takes care of everything. Literally, California cuisine with German love.
On the way home, I took out chicory coffee and almond cookies (this combination is the best!). Plastic-free paper takeout cups are super cool.
