I’ve been to the original Pepper Lunch in Taipei and in the Philippines. This is as good as it gets if not better. They have vegan friendly options ? & multiple add ins! Love being able to order at the table with the pad, very user friendly and convenient. Delish and fast. Thanks Bob for the great experience of our beloved sizzling hot plates.

Great food and great service. The indoor ambiance is great, the outdoor is quite different specially if your not into a city setup. We've been to a different location where sizzling lunch is in a complex, this one is not. Still enjoyed the food but we may go for a different location with parking convenienceParking: Mostly street parking. Be ready to look walk

A unique concept and the food is pretty good in general. You order on an iPad and the dishes are served on hot plates which you then season/cook yourself. The portions are generous (could be 2 meals for 15-20 dollars). The ambience is nice; it feels trendy and upbeat.

Bob, the manager is so generous and accommodating. I came in to pick up my Uber eats order of the kurobata pork rice dish and chatted with him for a bit. He was kind enough to give me a free dish of cheese corn and a soda! Thank you Bob!

Sizable portions, food comes out extremely quickly. Somewhat bland and basic flavors, you have to season it on your own. Service is OK at best, little to no attention from the servers and lag when doing something besides dropping food off.

We ordered the spicy beef pepper rice, chicken katsu curry, and chicken udon. All were delicious! They recommend you use the sauces on the table (teriyaki and garlic shoyu), and I think that's a good move, as the udon would've been a bit plain without it. The other dishes were good without sauce but the sauce makes them even better. The decor is nice and the layout is spacious. Food comes out very quickly (maybe in 10mins), and the employees were friendly. Last, you order from a tablet on the table, which is convenient and nice to see coming out of the pandemic.

Friendly staff and delicious food! Ordering is done via iPad at every table, and staff will help you order if you have trouble with technology. The food was piping hot and delicious, and I really enjoyed the amount of customization that is allowed! The one thing I think could improve is the cleanliness of the utensils and sauces/condiments on the table, as mine were very sticky.

16 bucks for 4 oz of half cooked meat in oil soaked rice that I had to douse with sauces for a shred of flavor

I guess it’s a copy brand try to be Paper lunch from China. It’s been opened for a week. All the main dishes are more than $15. Most of the dishes has no bean sprouts or other vegetables. I remember paper lunch is always has the egg and bean sprouts. Only me ordered the deluxe dish would come with the veggies and the miso soup. The service attitude is ok, but the workers still need more training. The ingredients are just ok, the rice is way too dry and tough, we talked to the workers and they either has no response or tell us if they put more water it will stick on the iron plate more. ?The air system should be improved since it’s gonna to be very greasy if all the dishes are cooked on the table. There’s no sensitize on the table. Not really recommend.

This review is for their pre-Covid operations. I love the hot pots at Boileroom! I would order the Taiwanese spicy pot all the time. I think I ate here 4 times in their first month or two of opening. I remember coming here during their opening week and the line was over an hour long because so many people wanted to try it. The portion and selection of food in my hot pot was great and the soup was much better than that of most pre-cooked hot pot restaurants I've tried. The sauces were also a lot tastier and I always helped myself to a good amount of it. The lines and service times got a lot shorter over the next few weeks, and then the first shelter-in-place was announced. I'm not sure if they're still serving hot pots during quarantine but if they are, I'd love to get some to-go! I wish they were on Snackpass or some other service where I could place pick up orders in advance and be certain about what menu items are available and when. Either that or an announcement or photo on Yelp with an updated hot pot menu and hours for Covid so I know what and when to order.

I went here 2 months ago with my gf and just remembered to give this place a 1 star. We ordered a spicy thai hot pot and a lamb hot pot but when we received our order it was mainly broth, barely any food. The Thai had a very strong lemongrass flavor. When we received the receipt, my gf tipped a certain amount and they changed the amount after! (We checked our credit card statement since we didn't have a good feeling after our dining experience) Maybe their clientele is geared more towards students but for anyone else stay away.

This is an equal review for both Boileroom's ice cream rolls and their hot pot. For their hot pot, it is pretty good especially for something that is walking distance of the UC Berkeley Campus and all the freshman dorms. I found that service was a bit slow, and they had accidentally given my order to another customer adding to the delay of my food. But afterward, it was rather enjoyable. As for the ice cream rolls, I found the flavors to be a little mellow, and the rolls were thicker than I would have liked. But overall, it tasted nice. I would recommend this place overall.

I'm typically not a big fan of individual hot pot places like Tasty Pot, but I really liked Boileroom. I ordered the beef hot pot, which came with a hefty serving size of beef and sides like vegetables and tofu. The broth was very savory and flavorful, unlike other individual hot pot places that I've tried. And for lunch, you also get a free green or black tea!
