Tucked away a bit off the beaten path in Southwest Berkeley, Cellarmaker is one of the gems of Bay Area brewing. IPAs are a specialty here and they are all interesting and consistently delicious, no matter what is on tap. Other great options include the Coffee & Cigarettes porter, plus really interesting barrel aged and sour beers from the Rare Barrel.
Pizza and other bar snacks/appetizers are very tasty, and the space is very chill and laid back, with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.
The only negative I can think of is that they aren’t open 7 days a week!
Each location carries its own charm but delivers top tier beer and some of the best pizza you'll come by
OK, so you may not ever have thought of Okra as something to eat, but the pickled Okra is not to be missed if you like spicy, pickled anything. Went great with my Abel Tasman pilsner. Yum
Great beer. Killer pizza!
Cellarmaker Brewery: Berkeley's Playground for Beer Adventurers
Craft beer lovers, listen up! My quest for exciting new brews led me to Cellarmaker Brewery in Berkeley, and let me tell you, it was a revelation. Cellarmaker is all about pushing boundaries and brewing liquid masterpieces.
A Nitro Dream: Coffee and Cigarettes
Right off the bat, Cellarmaker's commitment to the unconventional was clear. My journey began with the aptly named "Nitro Coffee and Cigarettes." This dark brew wasn't just interesting, it was "out of this world". The smooth nitro pour unveiled a rich coffee aroma with subtle hints of tobacco, culminating in a satisfyingly roasty finish. It was like sipping a perfectly brewed coffee with a touch of smoky intrigue.
Tropical Paradise: Coconut Bulletproof Porter
Next, I took a sharp turn into the tropics with the "Coconut Bulletproof Porter." This beer completely redefined the porter experience. The creamy texture and subtle sweetness from the coconut beautifully complemented the rich, roasted base, making it a unique and incredibly satisfying adventure for the taste buds.
A Refreshing Departure: Map of the Sun Sour
"Map of the Sun" being different from other sours ive tried. Cellarmaker's take on the sour style was wonderfully complex. The tartness was refreshingly balanced, offering hints of citrus and other subtle notes that kept my palate guessing in the best way possible. It was a delightful departure from the usual sour experience.
The Beer MVPs: Hard Cuts and Bourbon Blammo
But the fun didn't stop there. Cellarmaker throws some serious knockout punches with their collaborations. "Hard Cuts," a collab with another brewery, showcased the power of barley, delivering a flavor that was "soooper" good, according to your review.
Then came the "Bourbon Blammo," a champion aged in bourbon barrels and conditioned on toasted coconut. Let me tell you, "OO man that is tasty as heaven” is a perfectly apt description. The bourbon influence added a touch of sophistication, while the toasted coconut provided a delightful sweetness that perfectly complemented the base beer.
Beyond the Beer: A Culinary Delight (Pickled Okra)
Cellarmaker isn't just about the brews. Their "Pickled Okra," was a delicious addition to the experience. It's these little touches that elevate Cellarmaker beyond just a brewery – it's a place for a complete sensory adventure.
A Must-Visit for Beer Enthusiasts (and Beyond!)
We ended up buying a few more brews to take home, a testament to the sheer quality and variety Cellarmaker offers. This is certainly not a place to miss if you're in Berkeley and looking for exceptional beer, or even just a unique and delicious dining experience. With its dedication to innovation and commitment to flavor, Cellarmaker is a must-visit for anyone seeking something beyond the ordinary. I, for one, will definitely be back for more!
It's ok. Good pizza. Decent beers ?
We get a lot of distro of cellarmaker in the No so I honestly had all but 2 or 3 offering on their menu whe. I popped in to the ol rare barrel location. Doesn't matter. They make killer westies and some good hazies and everything else in between. I tried the barleywine collab with private press and it was layered in complexity. Love cellarmaker!
Great variety of beers + other drinks. Great service & food options.
Great place to have a beer. Open design and lots of seating, inside and out. They make a fantastic Hazy IPA imo.
Amazing beer. Not pleasant ambiance. Charged $6 for the smallest slice of cheese pizza I had ever seen (with the consistency of microwave pizza). And $15 for rare barrel 375s - not overpriced, but ridiculous.

Great beer. Great people. Great space. Keeping the Rare Barrel tradition alive under the Cellarmaker umbrella.
The beer here is really really good - at least the equal of any craft beer place in the East Bay and way better than most. So far this place seems wildly underappreciated which is fine with me cuz I don't like crowds...but still I wish it success
Great space. Staff were very friendly and the beer is (of course) excellent. Can’t wait to come back.
Great atmosphere with a good selection of beers. Lots of open seating both outdoors and indoors. The drinks are priced reasonably but they are mostly IPAs and barrel-aged beers. Wonderful spot to hang out with a group or just wind down with a drink. Nice local spot that I will definitely have in my rotation moving forward!
Country Sunday's seamlessly transferring to the Berkeley location? Yes please
