We were obsessed with this chicken sandwich and fries. We went to order and it appears it may no longer be available. Please bring it back, you nailed it - ten out of ten from me!

Aka Pollo Picante during the limited menu offering there doing during covidReally amazing spicy fried chicken sandwich. It comes dusted with habanero powder which you can ask for more of if you like. I enjoyed eating very spicy things and did not find the default dusting that spicy. It's a lot like the Popeye's Chicken sandwich but much much bigger and better with two chicken breast pieces placed on one delicious bun. Also I had no idea this place made some of the best fries I've had in recent memory.

I decided to give them another shot after my last unpleasant interaction. The place is under new management. Food is much better and the employees were great! It's nice to see a place make a change for the better!

The chicken sandwiches are amazing! Some of the best I've ever had but the service is bad, I've called in lunch orders 3 times now and show up 20 minutes later just to find they haven't started the order. No matter when you call in prepare to wait as if you never called. Still worth it if you have the patience or time.

My teen kids love this spot, so I came along one evening last week. My son got a veggie burrito and was very happy with its quantity and quality. I got the plain bean/rice/cheese burrito, which was quite large too. Unfortunately it came with no sauce whatsoever. When I asked about some pico de gallo or mild salsa, they said that would make it a veggie burrito (~$2 more) - wha?? So I stayed with the regular version since my daughter had been raving about it (plus I'm frugal), and was hoping it would be juicy enough from the beans. When we sat down to eat at home, my burrito was dry and relatively bland. I used some of the salsa that came with the chips, but it was too hot to use in the quantities this wrap needed. So, not a fan of the plain burrito. Turns out my daughter in the past apparently had repeatedly encountered a different employee who had given her all kinds of yummy extras to enhance taste & texture, for free. So, if you CAN get a little sauce with the bean-rice-cheese, go for it. Otherwise, pick something else...

I love this place! My go-to for Mexican food. Amazing food and service. You won't be disappointed.

I can definitely see why this place is so popular. The food is great and they have a really big variety. The chicken flautas are probably the best I've had. They have cheese and sour cream on top and sit on a bed of lettuce and pico. The chicken inside had a ton of flavor. I didn't even really need much salsa or hot sauce which is really saying something. The California burrito was pretty good as well. I had to add fries to make it what I'm used to. The meal came with chips and salsa which is always nice. It's been a little hard finding a go to Mexican food spot in Oakland but this might be it. Still looking for the best horchata.

Great food great prices fills you up, fresh salsa bomb steak. Recently added these spicy chicken sandwiches I'm addicted to with slaw that I always eat with an horchata. Great ownership and super quick service. Literally no complaints other than wishing they'd be open more hours. Other Berkeley restaurants need to take note this is how to do it.

Leaving you guys a review here because I dreamed about your California burrito last night. There's some places that have specific food items that I will go out of my way to eat and el burro Picante's California burrito is one of them. I remember it was freshman year of college when I first tried a California burrito from this very place due to a restaurant.com coupon and basically just fell in love. Now I'm in Florida, thousands of miles away and still thinking about winter break when I can come back and get that burrito again.

For those who haven't heard, the owner of el burro picante has implemented a chicken sandwich pop up restaurant within his own business. As far as I know this pop up restaurant only serves Thursdays and Fridays from 6pm Now let me tell you about EL POLLO PICANTE, if you are a fan a spicy chicken sandwich you gotta try this place, correction YOU MUST try this place.. man is the bomb!! The chicken is well seasoned and lightly breaded, wich it gives a perfect crispyness and crunch to the bite, the meat is tender and juicy and the flavors are to die for, and all that hold on to a soft brioche buns.. my mouth it's watering just to think and write about it! I visit el pollo picante on the 2nd day of opening and they served the sandwich with a small side coleslaw salad, which will mellow the spiciness if you can't take the heat.. now in my most recent visit the lovely and gorgeous cashier offer a side of honey sauce to try it out with the sandwich.. man!! That put this sandwich in a whole different level... man! That's even more A-M-A-Z-I-N-G... I highly suggest to pay them a visit!!

Great customer service and even better food. On Thursday and Friday night they have a pop up featuring a Spicy Fried Chicken sandwich. It packs a spicy kick but its a moist, tender, and, flavorful sandwich that keeps me coming back every Friday!!! They also have a great Mexican menu, I love the wet burritos, taco salads, and tacos. You will not regret stopping in for a reasonably priced and tasty meal.

This place is definitely one of the tastiest restaurants in the area. Every time I come there I am deeply happy. They keep their very high level service and the highest level of dishes they serve. You always win with this restaurant. Very recommended.
