Bomb pupusas, not too bready not too soggy or burned.Pupusas are easy to make and easy to get wrong. These were just right. Generous serving of curtido and tomatillo, which was just a little spicy.

I stumbled upon this place randomly. My dad is Salvadoran and although my mom has learned to cook all of his favorite Salvadoran meals, he also sometimes likes to eat out and find a really good pupuseria! (Place where they sell pupusas). One day we were in the area and got lucky enough to find Plátano! This was one of our favorite local Salvadoran spots for a very long time. We went back to eat there more than a few times and although we haven't visited the area recently, I've been wanting to go back just to eat here! Their food tastes so authentic and delicious. Their drinks are rich and flavorful as well and my favorite dessert was of course the empanadas de plátano! (Plantain empanada). I wish there was more Salvadoran restaurants available, I also wish I lived closer to plátano to satisfy some cravings here and there. If you're in the area give them a visit. Expect friendly and attentive service, a clean restaurant, and the best darn Salvadoran food you'll try in Berkeley!

One of my favorite food spots in Berkeley! You get so much food for what you pay for and I always leave super full and satisfied. I love the pupusas and the plantains and the staff are always super lovely. The lunch specials also come with a side of pickled veg which are such a good refreshing side, not too strong but a great complimentary side that's perfectly crunchy and such a good companion food. The space is actually huge so easy to find a seat. Definitely a great place to check out and highly recommend!

The best place for papusas in the bay area! They are generous with their sides, have a one of a kind pickled coleslaw, and perfectly cook their plantains. The seating is comfortable with great music (that you can hold a conversation in!!). Honestly come here just for the coleslaw and it'll make it worth your time, I make the drive from San Francisco just for it!

Probably the blandest pupusas I ever had. They took over 45 minutes to come out. The waiter did not check on us consistently at all during that time, and the place was not busy. However, I got to see much of the staff enjoy themselves outside. Maybe I came on an off day. It was a very off day. This was in 2021, so I hope it's better now.

A fan favorite for Berkeley students in the mood for pupusas, I got the chance to meet with a friend for lunch here. We ordered their combo specials & I got 2 pupusas (1 pork & cheese, 1 loroco) a chicken tamale and casamiento (beans & rice). They brought out the jar of curtido and I was in heaven. Everything was a solid portion and so flavorful in each bite. I was especially surprised by the casamiento which I've never tasted before. The service is friendly and they have a lot of seating indoors. The ambience is pretty casual so you could go here for all occasions from family dinner to a date. They also do amazing catering so if you're looking for someone to prepare food for your event, Platano is always a hit!

I've had better pupusas. The servers are great. So was the avocado salad.

Went here on a friend's suggestion and was not disappointed. I was able to only eat half of everything on the plate. Only two people working the tables but they visited every table often. Food was excellent. Again I'm not a fan of refried beans but these beans were so good. A little salty for my taste but still good.

I had heard such good things about this place, only to be very disappointed. First and foremost they were out of horchata!! What? Their prices are outrageous. I live in SF and even here you can have lunch without signing all you own over to the restaurant. The casamiento was bone dry and who knows how old. They also make it with black beans not red. Their platanos were on the verge of spoiling because they tasted a lil sour. The pupusas were decent but almost $5 bucks for a pupusa seems steep. Their atol de elote is ok. The place seems clean and staff was nice. I wont be trying this place again.
