We had dinner there about three weeks ago. I hadn’t eaten there in probably 25 years. Everything inside was so dated And old. The lighting in the fans were so rude and glaring It was really intrusive
The location and the wine were fantastic!
Amazing food, service, and a gorgeous outdoor view! Will definitely be returning in the future!

It's been a number of years since we were here last but very little has changed and the food and staff are as wonderful as ever. The Hitching Post 2 BBQ has been in Buellton, CA for over 35 years cooking over the same oak fired grill. While locally renowned, its location for scenes and ties to the movie Sideways added to its already following. A varied menu with lots of choices and most everything is cooked on their very large and open, oak fired grill. Aaron was a great server and had the numerous specials memorized to perfection. A relish-tray, garlic bread, soup or salad and your choice of starch are included. Never have had a poor meal or poor service. They are busy and reservations are a must even if you are dining early (closed Tuesdays). The have a great winery with their own label and have added a tasting room next door that also does a simple lunch menu Monday-Sunday. I will say it is looking a little worn and in need of a little TLC here and there but the food and service remain as good as ever.
Steaks were great. Cheesecake was delightful. Genevieve was very informative about the area and extended her hospitality‐made us feel like locals.
Unmissable.

We went there for lunch. Had a burger and some Tritip tacos. Burger was huge and the tacos were overflowing. It’s very laidback they bring out the food but make sure you grab any condiments and cutlery you may need. They did mention that it might be changing to a true sit down with a waiter soon so this may not apply soon after I post this.Anyway, make sure you are hungry!!!! Oh and the fries are delicious even without the ketchup.
We were visitng from the UK and stopped in Buellton overnight on a road trip between LA and San Francisco. Both my friend and I are fans of Sideways so made sure to book a table here. We both opted for the 15oz Prime top Sirloin, which was by far the best and most memorable steak I've had in the US. Cooked exactly as we asked and seasoned excellently. It's certainly up the pricier end of the market, but as a treat/special occasion spending almost $60 on a steak is worth it here. A big shout out to our server, Mackenzie. she's an absolute star and a credit to the restaurant.

Great dinner, good company, good service and a very interesting and entertaining dinner guest. Hitching Post has their own delicious wines! We had a very good experience here as we always do when touring Santa Barbara County. Nate Axline, Assistant winemaker for Liquid Farms, presented his wines and he could have talked all night; just a wealth of knowledge. He also makes his own wines, RZN. The ambiance was wonderful and thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
Friendly staff, good food and wine. This is a must stop by place.
This place is definitely wine in a million! I've made a lot of pour decisions in my life and super glad we visited this amazing winery.Dined the night before at their restaurant next door Hitching Post II and got the chance to enjoy some of their wine selections so decided to swing by the winery the next day to sample some of the other wines I didn't get a chance to try. So glad I did as this wine tasting was definitely the highlight of my vacation. We were welcomed by the host with the most Aaron when we got there just before opening time. It was amazing to hear him regale us with the history and future plans for Hitching Post Wines. The conversation and the wine was just perfect and one of the most memorable ones we've had sober or not :) Also had the pleasure of meeting owner and legendary wine maker Frank Ostini. Our visit here reminds me that wine is more than just it grapes. The best ones are the ones that were cultivated, nurtured and coaxed to excellence by passionate individuals like Frank and Aaron.Cheers to Frank, Aaron and the Hitching Post team! We love your Pinot and maybe, just maybe drink a glass of Merlot if anyone orders it (sorry Miles!).All in all, this is a wine-derful place to sip and enjoy life~
Worked there and I was the only one I ever seen wash my hands in months... the hand wash sink is always full of sonething
It's 2023, and if you have any ambition to be a noteworthy restaurant, you ought to invest in a proper web page. You can't tell much from their rudimentary and dated web page, other than it's specialties are tri-tip, BBQ and steaks. Except, it turns out that you can't get tri-tip or BBQ at dinner. And the menu seems to say that on a Monday (today), you can get a burger at dinner - maybe so, but you can't get the pulled pork or the tri-tip sandwich or the tri-tip tacos. So, we each ordered a small steak on an onion roll, with grilled onions & artichoke sauce, and a small dinner salad. It wasn't bad, though it wasn't what we wanted. Service was fine. My guess is if you wanted a steak & baked potato, you'd do OK here. But don't expect to get too far out of that lane. This place seems like it might be coasting on that old steakhouse reputation. Drinking just tap water, with tax & tip, the bill was about $70.
