The bread here is so good! I think it's better than tartine or manresa! the line moves much faster here than at the san mateo location!

High quality espresso, but not my favorite blend.. still hands down the only proper espresso place in Burlingame. Very clean.. upbeat and young vibes.. Very good pasteries.. but.... They run out of things to serve very often.. and they close 2 hours too soon.. but I guess that's the vibe in the Bay these days.. nonetheless I love the place

I bought the seeded sourdough (and a Pain du chocolat) and shared it with friends. It was a nice hearty bread with seeds baked into the round, not just on the outside. My friends thought it was the best they've had in a while. I've been to the SM store, but this one has lots of seating.

This place probably needs no further reviews because I'm sure they're all glowing! This opened not too long ago and I had been putting off coming because of laziness and lines even though it's in walking distance - well I gave in this post-call morning and wanted to indulge in some croissants, savory and sweet. These two of pistachio raspberry and everything croissant hit the spot. Nice and soft. The pistachio raspberry one has a filling as well. So glad to have come and will for sure be returning to try all the other goodies. The place was poppin on Saturday at 9:30am from people just grabbing to go to working to dining in for breakfast - it's a vibe and the music is kinda loud. My guess is it's probably a bit quieter on weekdays if you want a more calming scenery but for a quick grab, was no issue!

If you are looking for somewhere to go to work for an hour or two while there is work being done at your house... do not go here!!!! They do not have WiFi!!!!!! As a modern cafe, I did not expect this - especially after spending $9 on a cookie and drip coffee because I always make sure I buy things when using a cafe for a short time to work... then the screen asked for a tip - I wish I didn't tip - what service am I tipping for?!!! You'd think a cafe with plenty of seating and being brand new would provide WiFi. Great coffee and pastries but very disappointed I couldn't sit down and enjoy it. Please get WiFi, and I would love to be back on a weekday for a work from home break!

Very friendly staff & delicious pastries & breads. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable, especially the upper floor.

Backhaus is such a nice place to get a good cup of coffee and nice bite before an adventure. The open seating and clean ascetic really says "come back again!"

Ah-Mazing! Every item in the case looked delicious! My friend and I went halvzies on a chocolate, walnut & banana croissant and an almond croissant. They were both super tasty and crunchy yet light. I had a San Mateo Fog tea as the closest to a chai latte. I was pleasantly surprised at the unique flavor. I brought home a loaf of porridge bread, which has a crunchy crust and moist interior with a sourdough flavor. It is also delicious.Vegetarian options: The breads are vegan!Parking: It is on California Drive between Burlingame Avenue and Howard so there a lot of options for paid parking.Kid-friendliness: They have high chairs.

SUCH a cute bakery. Went on a Sunday morning, so there was a line, but it went quick and was well worth it. My fiancè and I didn't even have to worry about seating; we found one upstairs close to the window. The chocolate sourdough bread is super interesting. We got a few more items and delicious coffee. We definitely will be back!

Always my go to place for bread. I go 3-4 times a week. Loved their breakfast sandwich. Not sure if they changed sausage patty, it is a bigger portion but I think less tasty than the previous one. A bit longer wait for coffee.

They just opened. So, let’s be patient as they get their groove in their new digs all settled. We tried the speck and egg pastry. Wow! That was amazing! Perfectly executed too. The breakfast bun is like what a Michelin-level macdonald’s egg McMuffin (and more!) would look and taste like ifsomeone like Waters or Crenn would configure it, make it more natural, nothing too processed, and still taste stellar. They had a soft boiled egg with cream, strawberry jam (not much pectin nor sugar, yay!), arugula, crusty bread, and Comte. Not bad too. My only lament is the coffee. We had americanos. And they tasted watered down, with not much flavor. Like drinking dark colored warm water. No oomph. I wonder if they will let us bring a Philz coffee inside next time and we’ll eat their breakfast and buy their pastries. There was also no water dispenser on site on the 2nd floor. And the table we chose, by the window, was full of crumbs when we sat down. I guess no one walks around to inspect and tidy up. You’re on your own.

Second backhaus in bay area. Nice addition to Burlingame. This place has only indoor seating. It has seating on the 1st and 2nd floor. They sell pretty many items like the one at San Mateo. The pastries are yummy, and coffee/latte is good. It is just felt the latte is not hot enough and on the lighter side.
