Backhaus | Burlingame Reviews
Great place. Long lines and worth it
Best breakfast sandwich I’ve ever had in my life. The woman behind the counter was helpful and kind. It was my first time and she wasn’t impatient or pushy, which these days is hard to find. The atmosphere is lively and full of chatter- no computers tho (tech-free) so be aware of that if you’re trying to get work done.
Great pastries and coffee, great seating and vibes, little bit of a slow service

Backhaus, a charming restaurant with locations in San Mateo and Burlingame, offers a variety of pastries and drinks. The Apple Whip Danish remains a popular choice, described as a mini apple pie with a flaky crust, cinnamon-y and tart apple filling, topped with whipped cream and toasted almonds. The pistachio raspberry croissant is another favorite, known for its perfect texture, layers of pastry, and balanced flavor combination. The strawberry and pistachio croissant and mini chocolate soughdough bread are highly recommended for their excellent taste and quality. The egg and speck pastry is available but received mixed reviews, with some finding the scallions overpowering. The airy bread with a crunchy crust is enjoyed by many. The breakfast sandwich, served on a soft poppy brioche with a sausage patty and runny egg, and the peach French toast topped with sweet and salty cream and fresh peaches, are praised as well. The croissant, considered possibly the best ever, and drinks like espresso tonic with a slice of orange peel add to the experience. The Burlingame location features an upstairs area with seating, which can get crowded especially during busy times. The staff is friendly and welcoming, creating a cozy and pleasant atmosphere. While prices are on the higher end, many believe they are worth the quality of pastries. Parking can be limited, but street parking is available. During peak hours, it’s recommended to order items to-go, as drinks may take a while to arrive.
