Proteins were great. Appetizers were good, but super basic and expensive. French onion soup was great, but nowhere near $20 great. Maybe $8 great. Sides were lacking. Worst coleslaw ever? Quite possibly. Worst chard ever? Also quite possibly. Took an hour from placing our order to getting our food in a half-full restaurant.

Great food, enjoyed the salmon! With crispy skin no less, really nice touch. Nice atmosphere with courtyard dining.

Patio is dark with mosquitoes. Blacken shrimp Étouffée had no seasoning and the hushpuppies were dry. I didn't finish my meal. Big Disappointment!

We had dinner at Evangeline's last night. The French onion soup was very tasty. Definitely would order that again. A shrimp etouffee was to die for. if you are in Calistoga I definitely recommend this restaurant.

The past story was pretty good. This time it sucks! We were given a Menu printed on a crumpled piece of paper. It was completely different from the Menu shown online. Everything we wanted to order was missing! Unfortunately for us, it was too late to look for another restaurant without making a reservation.

I continue to love everything about Evangeline. The house-made pasta is always a good choice, and this evening I had a tomato and mushroom risotto topped with grilled prawns that my teenage daughter kept stealing bites from. We ended with chocolate mousse and vanilla ice cream, which had a faint taste of something (honey? Bourbon vanilla?) that we couldn't put a finger on. A great meal served in a beautiful setting, just off the main drag in downtown Calistoga.

The fried chicken was amazing. However, the rest of the food was mediocre at best. The shrimp etoufee lacked the depth that a good roux gives to it, and the rice wasn't fully cooked. It wasn't just toothsome, it had a crunch in the middle. The slaw lacked flavor and hadn't been left long enough to get more than shredded cabbage. My drink was watery, and none of the flavors listed sang or even harmonized. If you can get a different side for the chicken, then that's the meal to have.

Excellent food and staff. They love dogs which is a plus. Highly recommend this restaurant.

This was a beautiful experience! The house made pasta and steak were absolutely delicious and the service is amazing as well! So kind and attentive! It honestly feels like your at home just without the tv and Netflix lol super cozy! 20/10 would definitely come here again!

Unfortunately we had a very disappointing evening at Evangeline. It was freezing cold when we walked in. I asked if the heat could please be turned up and was told there was no heat. No explanation, just no heat! The menus were paper and filthy with grease and food marks all over them. We ordered hot tea and a split order of French onion soup to warm up. The tea was $7.50 per person which seemed steep. French onion was good and divided into two bowls for which we appreciated. My friend asked for honey with her tea, was told they had it and the server came back and said they didn't have any after all. No honey??? I decided to go with the renowned fried chicken and my friend ordered the salmon. About 45 minutes later the chicken came out. It was three pieces, all dark meat and very small pieces. The wing wasn't much bigger than a hot wing. Small amount of cole slaw on the side. I think the meal would have been much better with a biscuit and maybe a side of mashed potatoes. That would have probably made it worth it for $23! Also, maybe a choice of white or dark meat??? We were given two plates for the chicken. The main server came back to check on us. I requested the chicken be traded out for breast and brought out with my friends order so it didn't get cold. We asked about the salmon. No order had been put in for the salmon. The server went to put in the order. We considered leaving at that point. We would have appreciated some bread or other sustenance as the wait was now hitting an hour but none was offered. After almost 1 hr 45 min we were told the salmon was almost ready. We told the server to not bother and bring us the bill. We were charged $35 for the tea and soup. It should have been comped after such a horrible experience. We ended up at a Mexican place around the corner over 2 hours later starving. Evangeline hadn't even been busy when we arrived. Only a couple other tables. The whole experience was very odd. Evangeline you can do better!!!

We were looking for a nice restaurant for date night on our last night in Calistoga. Evangeline fit the bill! We order the shrimp cocktail for an appetizer. It was massive-6 huge shrimp with a couple of delicious sauces! We ordered the fried chicken and gumbo yaya...both were amazing. But the friend chicken is absolutely epic! Seriously, if you like fried chicken, order it. You will NOT be sorry! Wonderful service too. We're already looking forward to coming back!

Utterly disappointed and will not be returning. My friends and I came in on a Friday night and had high hopes for the food especially with the positive reviews and the price point. Sadly, we left the place yearning for more. We ordered oysters as a start but we couldn't finish it. The taste and quality of the oysters were questionable to say the least and had informed our waitress. Our lackluster main entrees, shrimp etoufee and lamb shank, were mediocre at best. As we left the place, we grabbed dessert elsewhere to cleanse our palate.

Please add okra to the gumbo. Also, more cheese please in the French onion soup. Everything else was good ?
