Made a last minute decision to add a stop in cambria on our way to OC.
The drive was a bit longer than expected, and we arrived around 8pm. When checking in, the concierge informed me that my reservation was for the night BEFORE, not that night. I was beyond mortified that I made that mistake and slightly panicked thinking they wouldn’t have availability. Luckily, they had the exact room that I had originally booked, and she was nice enough to give me a slight discount for the trouble, even though this was totally my mistake and not the hotel’s. Thank you, Lisa!
The room was really cute! I liked that it wasn’t your typical hotel layout. Our room had a fireplace and jacuzzi tub with jets.
Breakfast was a bummer- coffee, tea, bagels and muffins that look like they came from a vending machine. Didn’t see cream cheese anywhere. There was only 1.5 cups of coffee left. We decided to get breakfast in town.
On the e edge of a reserve, walking distance to town and great hiking, biking along coast.
We stayed in room 116 and the water pressure for the shower was nonexistent. It was as if you held up a garden hose and let it trickle down. I also noticed on our comforter, there was a brown stain (looked like chocolate? i hope)
We arrived late on Friday due to the long drive and they gave clear instructions for the room key. However the following 2 days, the staff at the front desk was half the time not there or really didn't acknowledge us when we returned or checked out. The lady did not even look up from her computer screen when we dropped off the room key.
This spot is convenient between the little town area and the coast. Free hotel parking.
We stayed here for 6 nights and were happy with the staff, who were very nice, welcoming, and helpful, but sadly less than happy with the room and facilities.
The “& spa” is to be taken very lightly. There is one massage therapist whose availability is obviously limited, and there is nothing else really to describe as a spa. That was a big bummer.
The room rates reflect luxury but the room we had was the biggest and theoretically one of the best, but don’t believe the pictures that show a balcony with the top tier room — no such balcony. Barely even any ventilation, as only one set of windows opened, and only minimally. The fan in the bathroom barely runs, and is only on (continuously) from 9am - 10pm. So when you shower, theres nowhere for the hot sticky air to go. I’ve never encountered this before - they turn it off overnight and it cannot be turned on in the room.
The room was not well lit, got dismal natural light, was completely undecorated, and if you’re hoping to relax in a nice room… don’t count on it. If I’d paid Marriott conference center prices I would have been happy with a conference center mid-tier room, but I spent a lot for the wk to try to show my mom a nice time, and it was a major bummer. The tv wasn’t even a smart tv (the only thing on any of the barren walls), so the best we could do is watch Netflix on my laptop.
The location IS to be noted - it’s situated pretty ideally to walk the boardwalk through the preserve, to moonstone beach, and to either walk or bike to town. (We drove bc my mom is older but definitely close). It’s a nice, walkable location, and a quick drive to any part of Cambria, up to San Simeon, or even down to Morro Bay.
Unfortunately I thought I was booking a locally independently-owned high-end hotel and spa and got a corporate, (bought out a couple years ago, it turns out), mid-tier hotel. We are pretty humble, mid-level people, but as such, $2300 for 6 nights was a pretty significant expenditure, and the expectations/marketing were sadly significantly out of line with reality.
I will say again, though, the staff and location were the high points.
Very nice place to stay. They have a Tesla wall connector charger that guests can use. The hotel is right at the end of Moonstone drive near the start of the boardwalk with easy access to the beach and restaurants but without the traffic congestion you get farther down Moonstone drive. Nice rooms, hot tub, etc.
I absolutely adored this boutique hotel. I stayed with my pup. Friendly staff. Easy to check in. What a gem in the area. Loved the room layout. Modern room, amazing spa tub and bathroom. Bed was very comfortable and the room smelled so nice. Great nature view from the room. Walk to ocean was very short from property. Tons of local restaurants in the area to enjoy and explore the magical little town of Cambria. Only regret was not staying here longer. ✨
Room was clean and nice. Quiet. Wooded view. Easy walk to the beach.
We arrived several hours before check-in, but the front desk wouldn't allow us to park in the hotel lot until we were checked in which we found peculiar.
Breakfast was continental which means it's basic. This was REALLY basic. We chose to eat elsewhere. Regardless, if we were in the area, we would stay there again.
Love it! The management and staff are fabulous!
Awesome place!!!! Good prices for a luxurious hotel. Very high end, very nice, and very cool. Great for a weekend getaway, right next to the beach.
My husband and I loved this place. It's clean, quiet and close to many beautiful locations. The service could improve a bit, the lady at the front desk could have been more welcoming. We overheard her telling a different guest about all the amenities this place has to offer. All we got was a reminder on the checkout date and time.

I called to modify a reservation and, on about seven separate occasions, someone picked up the phone and immediately left me on the line without saying a word. I understand the team may have been busy, but a simple acknowledgment like “please hold” would have made a big difference. Instead, I was left in silence each time. This level of service is extremely frustrating and disappointing.
The Hotel is wonderful, Lisa at the front desk was great help, funny, and professional. The rooms were excellent, clean, all accessories included as stated when doing research before booking. The location is perfect right between Moonstone beach and Mainstreet. This is the hotel I will definitely stay at when coming to Cambria.
We had a great stay at El Colibri Hotel & Spa. We did not know that Highway 1 was closed, so we called them on the day of and they kindly offered a significant discount if we couldn't make it. We decided to drive through US Highway 101 after returning on the California SR 1 and stayed the night in a 2 King Bed Suite (with my wife and parents). The room was spacious and comfortable and even featured a partial dividing wall between the two king beds and surrounding areas for privacy. The beds and pillows were extremely comfortable, as were the hot showers. The room had windows with a beautiful view. Everything was clean and comfortable and the hotel was only a short walk or drive from the Moonstone Beach Boardwalk. The packaged continental breakfast was a bit underwhelming but was sufficient for us.
We appreciated the flexibility of the hotel and our stay was comfortable and refreshing. It was not ostentatious but the hotel was comfortable, quaint and private -- which was what we were looking for.
Great place to stay. We strongly recommend this place. There is a walk path that takes you to 2 nice restaurants along the beach. We actually booked for one night and stayed another night. Great staff, super friendly! Not to be missed!
This was a great stay with great experience. The room was beautiful and clean. Everything was like a 5 star hotel . The jacuzzi, the fire place, we loved it so much.
Lisa , the receptionist was super friendly, she showed us the room and helped us so much. We loved it. Will come back again.
