The Pocket

My husband and I visited the Pocket the Thursday, August 21st. Their site said that they are pet friendly, so we went. The restaurant was empty and one of the visitors was asking how they were holding on. We were very nicely dressed, with the very beautiful, small dog in the cute stroller. We were very friendly and curious about establishment. It was our first visit. Came out the waitress Melissa and strangely gave us an attitude and a cold shoulder… I asked if I could order a grilled chicken for my dog and got the same attitude. Waitress said that only what is on the menu is available. I ordered Blackened Cod, and my husband ordered Halibut and 2 glasses of Chardonnay. It was only that! There was no bread, no rice, or any kind of grain! My fish was slimy and overcooked, and 2 strings of green beans were very old and ruff. The attitude of our waitress Melissa was so “welcoming” that we immediately left. Our nothing to look at dinner cost us $174!!!! We came out half-way hungry, our dog was shaking, and we felt like someone just robbed us. The restaurant which is standing out from the main traffic of Ocean Avenue should be fighting for every customer and adjusting their prices accordingly. They should check their employees’ attitude to figure out why restaurant is empty. We are good tippers and usually leave 20-25% tips, but this time I was very upset that my husband gave her $20 dollars tip. Take an excursion to restaurants like Demitra, Portobella, and see how owner personally greets guests and how he remembers returning customers, even if we are there only ones a year.
It was our first and last visit to Pocket, we will be informing our hotel owner not to recommend Pocket to any of their guests to avoid traumatic experience for people and for dogs.

Food poisoning alert! I should have read the reviews on spoiled food and bad service. We had black cod. You could smell a strong fishy odor when it arrived. It was very salty and fishy. We didn’t send it back because we had to send back another order because it had nuts and we said no nuts because of allergies. We weren’t too surprised as our waiter seemed haphazardly taking down our orders. Throwing up all night. Service was poor. Long wait to check in although there were plenty of staff around. Our waiter disappeared after getting our order for nut allergies wrong. Patio was dirty with debris. Inside of the restaurant seemed clean. I do not recommend this place!

Amazing atmosphere, service was 10/10…
The appetizers were really tasty and such a great start, but the main dishes ended up being a bit too salty for my liking. Still, the place has amazing choices and tasty fresh food!

Fabulous meal. I have dined here many times and always enjoyed it. Last night I had the West African curry chicken for the first time and it was delicious. It is definitely going to be my go-to dinner.

Absolutely a fantastic meal and the service was impeccable. We enjoyed the best scallops we’ve ever eaten, the octopus appetizer was delicious and creative. We ordered the mahi mahi and bluefin tuna. Both delicious. Special treats were the desserts of s’mores and the coconut masa cake. We will return for sure.

Was served at the bar by Jose. My wife and I had great interaction with Jose. Gnocchi and Ravioli was excellent, along with Hibiscus Mule and Mojito. The Greedy Fox was amazing!

We had a mix up with our reservation and the staff still worked hard to find us an accommodating seat. The waitress was super helpful. However, the food was 50/50. Two of us had halibut and it was very dry. Two of is had beef and it was cooked perfectly and delicious.

Probably the most expensive restaurant we are during the trip but definitely worth it. Dry aged strip was exceptionally seasoned, cooked perfect and the smoked tomato steak sauce went well, no salt necessary. Dining room is beautiful and service was efficient. Wine can be bought next door at Talbot's for a reduced corkage fee. Cliente is mainly adults but some families with young kids too. Beautiful eucalyptus tree in front. Definitely try the coconut bread pudding and amazing cocktail (Fiona)

We had the pleasure of stopping by on the walk back home. This place is charming in the late evening, especially with all the space heaters they have. The focaccia and Brussel Sprouts were super tasty! However, I really wanted to write out this review to highlight the food and service.

Our server was Jacob( I might be wrong about his name but he had long slicked back hair). He was incredibly patient and courteous throughout the evening, despite having to deal with two customers who were impossible to please. He was charming, quick, and witty. However, for every request we made he made sure to do his absolute best to accommodate us, even if it was something as silly as being able to sample lemon curd from another desert.

Jacob definitely deserves a raise, and needs to be recognized for his attention to detail and wonderful demeanor. We will be back!
