So disappointed. We always loved The Cannery when it was in Hayward. Today I went for the 1st time in Castro Valley & ordered a ham breakfast sandwich like always. The bread was completely overcooked & hard and literally sopping wet with butter. :( I had to remove the bread and use a napkin to clean my plate and dab the ham/egg so I could at least cut the ham and egg to eat that. The cashier was extremely slow and tended to other items practically avoiding the people in line. Overall very disappointed. I will try one more time though in hopes this was just a bad day for the cashier & cook staff.

The food has been really good so far, I have only been here twice and both times I had the Betty Down Home chicken sandwich with fries. The only difference is one of the times they added the spicy honey directly to the sandwich and the other time it came on the side which I prefer as it keeps the bun from falling apart.I will definitely be coming back to try different items on the menu.

The Cannery Kitchen and Tap is a lively place in Castro Valley Marketplace. It has both indoor and outdoor seating options. Extensive breakfast and brunch menu. We ordered The Tucker - poached eggs and salmon on biscuits, The Boulevard - poached eggs on chickpea cake and Betty's Down Home burger - buttermilk fried chicken burger. The food was good but the poached egg was not runny and tasted more like boiled egg. The hollandaise sauce was good. My friend liked the fried chicken burger and smoked salmon. After brunch/lunch, you can check out the marketplace and head to Lake Chabot (8-10 min drive).

We had our dog with us and needed a place where we could get yummy food and sit outside by the heat lamps and this was a great choice! My husband and I split the Cubano sandwich with fries and the beet and arugula salad. The sandwich was excellent and the salad was ok but it was a great balance to the sandwich. The fries were delicious with ketchup. They must have been double fried to be so crispy.I had an IPA that I enjoyed. Service was great and everyone was very friendly and helpful. I would definitely try this place again when we pass through Castro Valley

This restaurant is a solid 4 stars. I’m giving it 5 stars because I think some of the reviews on here are completely unjust and this will balance that out.We have gotten to go meals a couple of times, the blue plate specials and the food was good. This past Thanksgiving, we ordered their Thanksgiving meal, and it was outstanding. The quality of the food, the variety of the sides, and the portions are all well worth the cost. I couldn’t believe I even got a bottle of wine to go with our meal!As an aside, we have a gluten-free friend and we check out the restaurant’s menu before we go to ensure he has a selection of food to choose from. Besides french fries, there are salads available. They have a full selection of non-alcoholic hot and cold beverages. The restaurant has beer and wine available, but no hard alcohol drinks. If you have food allergies and don’t care for drinking alcohol, it might be a good idea to check a place out on line before you go.

This place has a lot of alcohol if you like that. They don't have gluten-free options. They give you a flimsy paper straw with your drink which is kind of gross to drink from. Mom got iced mocha. We shared garlic fries. Order was $11.58 total. The patio with the tables is nice. The prices are decent but they want you to pay and tip even before you get your order which I don't like. The chairs are extremely uncomfortable to sit in when outside at the tables.

Could only order fries and the garlic fries have way too much chunky raw garlic, wheew! Drink is good (mocha iced coffee) but straw is rolled cardboard with irritating texture. The bill expects a tip before you even got your order which is irritating. So the worst thing is it's location at an organic food store with not a single gluten free item in the menu. This I am stuck with fries, and that is a huge flaw. The outdoor setting is nice at night.

I ordered the Cubano sandwich and handmade potato chips. Everything about it was amazing! The bun was heaven! Great flavor, plenty of meat and the pickles were delicious. Will certainly order this again. Can't wait to be able to find in and try some of beers on tap... Unfortunately there had just been a trap takeover by Shadow Puppet and I'm just not a fan.

I love Castro Valley Marketplace a true gem in the East Bay. The Cannery Kitchen and tap is inside the marketplace which has inside and outside seating. On Fridays there was a tiki bar pop up which was a lot of fun.Food was good and generous amount of fries. I got the fried chicken sandwich which was more saucey and sugary than I would have preferred. My friend got the turkey million dollar bacon and avocado sandwich which she liked.Note that the hot sandwiches aren’t available until after 3pm which was a bummer we had to wait a while before we ordered. Curious why they need to do that. Many customers were also thrown off by that.

- Casual eatery with indoor and outdoor seating- Order at counter and food is brought to table- Order by phone available for indoor seating- Service was good. 5 stars.- Unfortunately I was not impressed with my food.- "Fish and Chips" - fish had good crunch but lacked any flavor, the sauce provided was more of a thin aioli than a tartar sauce, fries were very very salty - like burn your tongue salty- May give it another shot with another dish

Good sandwich and sides. I got the chicken salad sandwich with chips and both were good. My friend ordered the impossible burger and fries for us both to share. Everything we had was good. The chips and fries could do with a bit more seasoning, but we're crispy and fresh. The outdoor seating area is really nice!

Good veggie & pescatarian options. Indoor & outside seating. Shared space with a small grocery store and deli counter. Parking is a challenge in this area. Lot is usually full (weekends) with very small lanes. They are flexible - allowing tofu sub for eggs in their chilaquiles. The app is frustrating in that it is slow to respond and takes you all the way out to the first page each time you add an item - so lots of scrolling. Besides that it's a very nice environment with local vendors setting up booths in the outdoor area.

First time eating at the cannery, met friend for brunch and tried the lemon ricotta pancakes and home fries. Good food, decent service. We ate inside would check out the outside seating area on next visit.Decent amount of parking, it got really crowded at lunch time.
