we were told they didn't take reservations but two 4 tops were reserved when we got there. we were told it would be maybe a 20 minute wait. we waited over an hour. one table had eaten all their food and this white guy comes in and sits down with that table and they order nothing more and just stare at their phones while we waited another 20 minutes. what a waste of time! as a chico resident of over 25 years, I'll never go to Big Tuna again, there's better in service and quality.
Always fast, amazing quality sushi and nice people! What could be better?

The sushi chefs and hosts are the kindest and nicest people around. The quality of the sushi is by far the best in Chico and the prices you can't beat.

The place was very active at around 6:40 PM, which in theory is always a good thing as far as the food circulates and busy better than empty. A very nice young Lady had mentioned this Big Tuna was a favorite place for her, and also mentioned the Butter Noodles as being extra tasty. Curiosity, of course, got us all to the location. Upon arriving we were seated rapidly in a table for four. Menus were handed, drinks offered, by an energetic bordering on pushy waiter. Hold your horses, man! New to the scene. Food ordered: Ramen $13+, which one third was not consumed, which always looks sad. Chicken skewers $5+? soaked in heavy teriyaki. Small little things, that’s why they were on the small plates section. 6 steamed dumplings $7.50?. Butter noodles $6.50 each, two. Both girls loved them, one asked for one more. In her defense that was her meal. I tried them, thick noodles with a buttery, almost invisible sauce. Fairly popular it seems, I didn’t think so. Two kinds of rolls were ordered, to the tune of $12+. I know one had salmon, rice, etc. I got Calamari fried, which basically was so bad It upset me. Little rings, tasteless with an abundance of a crunchy batter, dried way past approval. That’s when I got up with the excuse of using the restroom, but more to visualize who was cooking. For a sushi place zero Japanese. No finesse in this $8.50 miserable plate. Toasted, almost burnt accompanied with cheap ranch dressing. The second, burned again! JFC Chicken. Slightly better than the calamari offering, but not by much. Inadvertently I asked for two fried blunders. Meanwhile the waiter kept pushing to sell more baloney, or get us out to seat more fans. Disliked him completely. Bill almost $90. Was it worthy? Not in your wildest dreams! Yet place packed. 1.5 Stars.
Nothing about this place is express and the quality is far below that of the restaurant side (which is great!). The prepared sushi in the case was dried out (Raleys is better…) and there were no rice bowls ready. Ordered a to go roll and they didn’t give soy, ginger, or wasabi with the roll.
The grab and go sushi is the best in Chico and at the best price in Chico. If they keep it priced well I plan to make Big Tuna Express a regular stop for lunch.
OMG, I can't say enough "good thing's" about Big Tuna! Excellent service. My waitress was super friendly, fast, and efficient. My table was promptly cleared after each course by either the waitress or busboy. ...and those Japanese Taco's; can't get enough of them! Also, I love the fact that I can pop in to the store and pickup the Big Tuna Hot Sauce for home!
First time here. Food and service was excellent.
They have great Poke bowls, sushi, and they sell snacks \\u0026 drinks imported from Asia. They also sell a few clothing items \\u0026 some kitchenware. Good stuff.

We were waiting at the counter for over a minute right in front of the cashier who kept ignoring us, I finally spoke up and asked for poke, she then asked her coworker. He goes to the back of the room (and we can see everything he was doing) stands for a few seconds doing nothing and says no. I feel bad for saying this but that was the worst customer service I’ve gotten in Chico :(On a side note we went to the main restaurant and the people working there treated us 100% better and actually acknowledged us
Great prices the staff were great and food didn’t disappoint
