I was very disappointed.. tried the chilaquiles red and green and were served cold. Place it is kind of dark inside. And they sat me next to the toilet. Very bad experience.

Our first time and we will be back. Everything was extraordinary, from start to finish. Great food and great service. Not only do they serve complementary chips, if you get here between 8-12, you get fresh pan dulce. And if that is not enough, you get a complementary dessert. The atmosphere is relaxed, rustic, and warm. Thank you, El Prieto!

I was there on 2/8/26. Do not let the person outside in the parking lot clean your car! We told him NO, and he still wiped it down. It had been raining and my car was muddy. My black paint now is scratched! This is a great restaurant and this is not related to their great service, and food but they should be cautious of who they allow on their property.

We found this place on an instagram reel and it looked really good enough for us to come check it out. My husband ordered birria fries which were very bland and basic no flavor whatsoever. I started with an aguachile which was completely raw. Like the rawest shrimp ive ever tasted in my life i tried to eat some of it but it was just really bad and the waiter was kind enough to exchange it for something else and i got the tostada of ceviche when they brought the plate i was confused because it looked like a coctel de camaron in a plate but at this point i was just going to go with the flow. I tasted it and i was surprised in how salty the shrimp itself was like eating a spoonful of salt and it wasn’t on the surface of the shrimp it was internal. Overall the service was great. The aguad frescas were good and big sized like the video on instagram but the food itself was not all that pretty disappointing. Its a try it and not go back type of place.

The complimentary conchitas really good, service amazing. Chilaquilas compadres, and huevos rancheros were good no meat included Its expensive for breakfast and was charged $2.49 extra per egg $5 for 2 additional eggs when i get 12 in a pack. They forgot to bring out consome , but still charge me for it. They took it off after i said something, they did include a free small desert. Friendly but overpriced. Definitely not returning. Spent $100 when at cocina 35 the same dish would have included chicken. They are located in the ghetto with downtown sd prices.

Waited in line for an hour and a half told it would be 40 to 45 min never got inside because they never told us the truth they had a party of 8 tables kept asking server how much longer they kept laying to us the host was not honest about are waiting time really disappointed with their honesty 0 stars
We visited El Prieto during breakfast recently, and overall, it was a pretty enjoyable experience with a few highlights and just a couple of things to keep in mind.
Parking: I'd give parking about a 2 out of 10 if you’re arriving after 10 AM. We got there around 10 o’clock and found it okay, but for anyone coming later, it seems like spots fill up fast. So if you want an easier time parking, maybe aim for around 9 AM.
Service: The service was friendly. Our server Raul was a nice guy. They brought the food out quickly about 10 mins after we ordered, which was great, but he didn’t really circle back to check if we needed extra drinks or water refills. Not a big deal, just something to note.
Food: The food was definitely the highlight for us adults. My wife, who loves seafood, really enjoyed the shrimp omelet. It was a good portion and reasonably priced around $19-20. I had the huevos rancheros priced at $18, which were also tasty. Plus, they started us off with complimentary pan dulce and even gave us a free cheesecake dessert at the end, which was a really nice touch.
Kids' Perspective: From our 10-year-old son’s point of view, the food overall got a solid 10. He really liked his Gusto plate he received. Meanwhile, our 5-year-old’s kids' meal was a bit of a letdown. It came with one small egg and three large pancakes, and we would have liked a bit more balance—more protein and fewer pancakes.
Facilities: The restaurant’s interior was really unique, with a nice ranch-style decor that added a cozy and charming touch to the atmosphere. One thing to note, though, is there’s only one bathroom in the entire restaurant for everyone—men, women, and children all share that single restroom. We didn’t personally have to wait, but we did notice a bit of a line forming, so that’s something to keep in mind if you’re visiting during a busy time.
Cost: The total meal for the four of us was $108, including a $20 tip. So it was reasonably priced for what we got, especially considering the portion sizes. Portion sizes are not big if you love stuffing your face. Lol It was perfect for someone like me that doesn't like to force myself to eat the entire plate. I prefer the medium portion so I can eat the complete plate and then enjoy the dessert after.
In summary, El Prieto is a great spot if you’re looking for good Mexican style breakfast. Its welcoming, uniquely decorated atmosphere. Just try to come a bit earlier for easier parking, be prepared for a single restroom situation, and maybe give them a little wave if you need that water refill. Overall, it’s a solid choice with just a few quirks. Enjoy!
