Many customers find the food to be very good, especially the lunch buffet available from Friday to Tuesday, which is popular and often ordered through takeout. The food is made with love, and the service is decent, with a waiter who has excellent customer service. Customers have praised the consistency and flavor of the wonton soup, which includes pieces of BBQ pork and greens. The orange chicken was delicious. However, some dishes have been disappointing; the meat dishes sometimes lack enough meat, with beef with broccoli mainly being broccoli, and chicken chow mein having very few chicken pieces. Pork fried rice can be heavy on peas and carrots with only a few chunks of pork. Some chicken entrees that are fried have too much breading and not enough meat, making the food taste heavy. The Mongolian beef plate was bland and spicy. Despite mixed reviews on some dishes, many highly recommend New Shanghai for its delicious food at an affordable price, making it a great place to eat.
