If you are into spicy Chinese food, then you will love this place. This eatery serves Chengdu style food (a sub-part of Szechuan cuisine). It had the same 麻辣 taste for all of their dishes （literal translation: numb & hot pepper spicy) as in a typical Szechuan dish. Numbing effects came from black & white peppercorns, which you can taste quite distinctively. Thhis style of food is known as Maocai 冒菜(translates from local dialect: heat the food); , which derived from the hot spicy soup with all kinds of herbs pour over the ingredients creating steam (as in 冒烟as in “smoking”）just before serving to the patrons. You can choose from the menu or pick your own from the buffet bar and you will pay based on the weight of your selections. Once weighted, the kitchen will cook your concoction for you based on your selection of the sauce. All sauces were spicy and numbing. You can also choose lite spiciness, mid spiciness or extreme spiciness. This is the first time I’d tried this and I actually enjoyed the numbing and hot peppers flavor very much. I pride myself on eating spicy food, but I opted for lite spiciness here and it was plenty spicy for me. The prices were reasonable and the quantity was fulfilling for the items on the menu. You can also choose from glass noodle, rice noodle or instant noodle for your carb. I had the rice noodle and it was very well made. My wife selected the least spiciest sauce, the beef bone soup, with beef and it was just a bit spicy, but plenty of numbness.

They left the air con off today so it was quite warm. With that said the food was delicious! We picked the make-your-own hotpot and everything was cooked to perfection-I really enjoy spicy food! We’ll definitely come back soon. Highly recommended. Give this place a try if you enjoy hot/spicy food with a make-your-own option.

Authentic Szechuan food. I ordered Build Your Own Hotpot with Red Chili Oil soup base and medium spicy level. The soup was very flavourful, marinated beef was very tender. Will definitely return for more.

A grave mistake. I wanted to eat a bowl of beef noodles and found myself here after coming from my bank. I ordered a bowl of beef noodles, mild spicy. Little did I know that it would be spicy and too salty. I was coughing out of the spiciness and saltines. I didn't complain to replace my order because I know that some cook will mess your food when you do that. I just paid and left my unfinished, not even 2/3 beef noodle soup bowl. A waste of $14.

My boyfriend and I really wanted to try the restaurant next door but they had a soft opening the day we went and only accepted reservations. Instead, we decided to eat at Hibiscus Tree II. When you walk in, the restaurant is brightly lit. There's a food bar in the back left corner of the restaurant. The restaurant is family and group friendly. We decided to order the 13.99 deal where you go to the food bar and select all the ingredients you want in your hot pot. After we selected our ingredients, we were able to pick the soup base. I picked the red chili oil soup base with medium spice and no numbing spice added. My boyfriend got the tomato soup base. Oh btw, they weigh all the ingredients you get on a scale and that's how they charge you. I got about 1.5 lbs of food and my boyfriend got about 3 lbs of food. They take the ingredients to the back and work their magic and come back out with all the ingredients and the soup base you pick. When we were finished we had so much food leftover. I was glad they gave us take out containers to take our food home with us. The part that sold me about this business is the fact that I got to pick all the ingredients I wanted in my hot pot. We ordered the new 13.99 pick your own ingredients bc we're not aware they weigh the food and charge by weight but that's okay. Times are tough. Our total came out to $77 for two people and one herbal tea. We might revisit one day.

I order Uber eats delivery from here almost every week. The orders always arrive fast and very well packaged with utensils. I really like the food varieties with a lot of veggie options. The spicy level is pretty intense so I usually order non spicy. On some adventurous days I might order small spicy. The flavors don't have much numbing flavor which I like a lot. I can't stand numbing flavor usually. My favorites are veggie combo and hot pot noodles. The lychee green tea here is one of the best, better than most tea shops surprisingly! This is a such great place for food delivery and the prices are so good!
