About The French Spot

The French Spot is a bakery known for its outstanding pastries, located within the Trader Joe's shopping center. It offers a variety of sweet pastries that are fresh, flavorful, and made with evident care and craftsmanship. The pastries are described as super flaky, moist, rich inside, and crispy outside, reflecting the skill involved in their creation. Popular items include the guava danish, Ube mochicro, cinnamon roll, banana cream pie, sea salt caramel apple tart, citrus morning bun, kouign-amann, and Korean garlic bread. Many reviewers highlight that the pastries are destination-worthy, with some ranking the guava danish among the top five they've ever had worldwide. The bakery’s croissants and other baked goods are especially praised, with comments about their crunchiness, softness, and perfect filling. Customers also appreciate the welcoming, homemade quality of the treats, which even appeal to children, making it a family-friendly spot. The owners, a husband-and-wife team, pour love and creativity into their work, ensuring each pastry impresses. The only downside mentioned is that some items sell out early, so arriving before 10 am is recommended for maximum selection. While primarily offering sweet pastries, they also have savory options like croissants and sandwiches. Overall, The French Spot is highly recommended for anyone seeking delicious, high-quality baked goods, and it stands out as one of the best bakeries in the Bay Area.

I absolutely love their breads of all and every kind. Too good — just like the SF spot. Too good!
Great weekend retreat! Highly recommend the baguettes and croissants. The pastries are delicious too.
Truly the best pastries in the East Bay.

We are so lucky to have a pastry program of this caliber in the suburbs. These pastries are absolutely destination-worthy—the guava danish is easily one of the top five pastries I’ve had anywhere in the world. You can taste the care, craftsmanship, and creativity in every item, and it’s clear how much love the husband-and-wife owners pour into their work.

The only thing missing, in my opinion, is espresso beverages....read full review
