While staying nearby, in downtown San Diego, we came to Coronado for the evening and stopped in here… We decided on The Tavern because of all the great reviews and this place definitely didn’t disappoint! Our service was excellent, from the host greeting & seating us, to our server and the speed of our service. The menu was really nicely done, loaded with nice bar bites, as well as bigger plates. Wine line and cocktails are done quite nicely here too. We started with their Mexican shrimp which was grilled and served with their romesco – It was OUTSTANDING! The shrimp was fresh and tasted great on their own, but the sauce and pickled veggies were a very nice touch. But while eating this, we were still deciding on main courses and after seeing the sliders walk by, I wanted those. I NEVER order sliders, as they’re typically overdone. But something about the way these looked and the description of them and their burger in the menu told me I was in for a treat. I most definitely had some of the BEST hamburger I’ve ever had! The sliders were the best for sure, but if they do their burgers that same way (referring to the meat, which is local grass fed beef, hand packed, perfectly cooked to temp over a wood flame, with a kiss of smoke to the fatty parts of the meat – WOW!), then they probably make some of the best burgers I’ve ever had! Highly recommend stopping in!

The Tavern is located on the main street of Coronado a few blocks from the Famous Coronado Hotel. There is a long bar with a couple of televisions and lots of tables and booths. The brick walls and exposed pipes make it look like the restaurant has been there for a long time but actually it has been open for only a few years. The lunch and dinner menus have a lot of interesting choices. We were there for lunch and ordered beef sliders with fries and fish tacos. The food was very good and Hannah the server was friendly and efficient. I had a margarita which was good but much too small for $13. Also if going anywhere in Coronado beware that it is difficult to find a parking space anytime.

Cool venue and delicious food! We had the pork chop and the filet mignon. Both were perfectly cooked, beautifully presented, and the sauces were lovely. The Brussel Sprout appetizer was one of the best we've had, as well. We will definitely be back!

Great location and the BEST tomato soup. Salads are small, but fresh and delicious. A perfect place to enjoy a drink before walking to the waterfront area.

We picked this restaurant because we had to watch a particular college football team play, and wanted a place that had TV’s and good food. We found the perfect place at the Tavern! The service was great (Danna?), the cocktails were perfect and the food was delicious! We had the tomato soup, chicken pot pie and halibut tacos. We topped it off with hot peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream-YUM! We would definitely return and recommend this place!

We ate at the bar. Servers were friendly and food was good. Restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating. Highly recommend.

We ate outside and had burgers and they were very tasty. The furniture could use an upgrade...fairly rickedy! But worth the food! Service staff were very nice also.

Food, drink and service were all great. Enjoyed a slow paced, casual night. LOVED the halibut tacos! Good for visitors and locals alike.

Thanks for an outstanding evening. A cancellation due to weather had us scrambling at the last minute to find dining for a party of 12! The Tavern delivered. Our group of 12 turned into 17 and our served didn’t bat an eye when faced with accommodating that number. She was very efficient and didn’t appear to get at all annoyed by our rowdy, celebratory group. Food and drinks were tasty. Atmosphere light and casual. Thank you for turning what could have been a disaster into an oh so fun evening!

The Tavern is a basement restaurant that brings great cocktails and a superlative food program that is sure to please both your mind and stomach. We found the Trinidad Sour to be our favorite drink of the night, with the Hot Toddy in close tow. Don't miss the the Littleneck clams, crispy wings, and Mac and Cheese. Unexpectedly, the Airline Chicken left us conjuring Peking and teriyaki flavors. The salmon entree hits on all cylinders as the sleeper of the night. Lastly, the most, best, and greatest part of the night was the exclusiveness of Glen a.k.a. STARDUST, a wonderful server who complimented our night as perfectly as a San Diego sunset.

My husband and I stopped for beers and a couple of appetizers. Fish tacos were okay and the Brussels sprouts were burned. Service was great, sweet girl.

Don’t let the name fool you – the food here is really good. We had drinks and dinner with a large family and everyone was able to find a dish they liked. We especially enjoyed the sweet potato fries with blue cheese habanero dressing, roasted brussel sprouts, beet salad, and the mains (steak, pork chop, chicken pot pie) were good too. Steaks were overdone for medium rare but still good. Their warm chocolate chip cookies with ice cream dessert was a delicious way to end the meal. Service was excellent.

We were tired of food options at Hotel del Coronado so we walked here. Food was pretty good. Tacos had flavor. Mac n cheese was not gourmet but filling. Overall portions small. Waiter friendly.

I loved my visit here. The bartenders were very friendly. I had a filet that was cooked perfectly. They had a good beer selection and even had a homemade sangria that I tried and liked. The place does not look like much but it was very good.
