1954 Egashira Bakery Reviews
This bakery is so delicious!! Great options and a surprisingly good banana matcha. The cream top was so thick and delicious. I like the salt butter roll, curry bread, and. I think it’s called the sunrise? I can’t wait to try more.
This place is great. I did come a tad late so less stock was out but the breads they make are excellent.
And to the complainers- look this plaza is ALWAYS a hot mess and crowded. The previous shop when it was popular also had a line out the door pre covid. You would wait in the sun. The line wrapped around. The matcha place is way worse in terms of a wait!
Anyways check this bakery out just know the plaza is chaotic especially on the weekend

1954 Egashira Bakery, located at The CAMP in Costa Mesa, is a charming new bakery that offers a nostalgic experience reminiscent of 50s era Japan. The bakery features a classic Japanese style decor with a cozy, eurocottage-core atmosphere. It opens at 9:00 AM, often attracting long lines even before opening, with some visitors waiting over 30 minutes to make a purchase. The bakery specializes in unique baked goods, with popular items like the Salt & Butter Croissant, which is soft, buttery, slightly salty, and light, often selling out quickly and limited to two per person. Other favorites include the salted butter rolls and mini croissants, praised for being simple yet delicious and well-made.
The bakery offers a variety of freshly baked items at reasonable prices, providing great value for money. The Shokupan (Japanese milk bread loaf) is highly popular, along with items like the Curry Frank, which boasts a tasty curry flavor that pairs well with hot dogs, and the Matcha cube, a sweet treat with dense bread and matcha cream. Some less favored options include the Almond Fromage, which was seen as just okay, and the limited savory options, as most baked goods are sweet. The staff is friendly and attentive, and late afternoon discounts make it an appealing visit. Overall, 1954 Egashira Bakery delivers a nostalgic, well-crafted Japanese bakery experience with delicious bread and a welcoming atmosphere.
