Authentic Japanese katsu restaurant.

A true Tonkatsu shop in the OC! They even have choices for various cuts of pork to include fattiness. Served fresh on a rack just like in Tokyo. A hidden gem!

Came here for dinner on a Monday night and there was no waiting. We had the pork loin tonkatsu and the pork tonkatsu curry. Both dishes were pretty good. Service was below average as they never checked on us and we needed to request drink refills. Parking is available in the strip mall.

Stopped by for dinner on a Wednesday night. We saw many elderly Japanese patrons going in and out of the establishment, so I knew this place was going to be good. My husband and I ordered a set menu of pork katsu & beef katsu. I prefer the beef katsu because the meat is a lot more tender, and would order the same one next time we come. Hubby thought the pork katsu was fine. The breading was scrumptious. This place is a solid katsu spot.

Definitely reminds me of the katsu I had in Japan. Very cozy and tasty katsu selections with reasonable prices. Would definitely come back!

A true gem! I felt like I transported to Japan. The decor is very clean with a Japandi aesthetic, and the service is impeccable. My boyfriend ordered the Pork Loin, which had the recommended stamp of approval on the menu. We both thought it was just ok, especially compared to the Mille feuille (no cheese) I ordered. The Mille feuille was super juicy and tender, so good that he already decided he wanted to order it on our next visit. On our second visit I ordered the limited beef katsu and omg 10/10. It was so good! Looked just like the photos too, which is rare. I don't even like wasabi but their wasabi is elite because I tried some with it and it complimented all the flavors so well. Also each dish comes with miso soup and salad and some sides. The miso soup is SO flavorful.Make sure you enter from Baker, right before Wahoo's, otherwise the parking lot does not connect and you'll have to circle back around.

This is the most authentic tonkatsu spot you can find in Costa Mesa! As someone who's been to Japan many times, Kagura's food is comparable to the katsu in Japan. Whenever I miss Japan, I come here to satisfy that tonkatsu itchParking: it has its own lot that is a bit hidden, you cannot get through from the wahoo's fish tacos parking lot. There's a small entrance to the side on Baker street. Almost all parking spots are compact, but there are plenty of spaces and I have never had a problem finding parking! Food: I have only tried the pork shoulder loin since after googling the difference between the cuts offered, the shoulder is the most tender. They fry it in such a way that it isn't greasy at all, yet it provides the best crunch without feeling heavy. I'm always impressed by how well it is cooked to perfection. It comes as a set with a bowl of rice, shredded cabbage with dressing, tofu cube, miso soup, and pickled veggies. I've been to other tonkatsu restaurants where they provide sesame seeds for you to grind yourself to make a sauce, I just wish this place had it. Plenty of seating throughout the restaurant, and there is rarely a wait when I go for lunch. Interior is very Japanese and the ambiance is pretty casual. The staff here is very attentive, continuously checked on us if we needed anything and refilled our waters often.

Authentic katsu exactly how they make it in Japan. Most places do an American / Hawaiian BBQ style breading, which is nowhere near as crispy and juicy.Parking: You have to come in on Baker St. and turn right into the lot right before the intersection with Bristol. It's the only entrance to that strip.

tldr: Service was exceptionally bad… tbh food was pretty good but because of the service I don’t think I’ll ever go back.Came in with friends for lunch. We just sat down and they immediately asked what we wanted to order when we obviously haven’t seen the menu yet. We asked them to give us some time to decide but they wanted us to order a drink right away. 2 more people asked if we were ready to order when we already asked for more time as it was our first time eating here.Towards the end, my friend was still working on her meal. We didn’t ask for the bill yet, but then a staff came to us with the device to select a tip and pay for the meal when we haven’t even seen the bill yet. Seriously?
