Yu Cake is a new cafe that recently opened inside South Coast Plaza, situated near the Saks 5th Avenue entrance. Resembling the popular chain Lady M, Yu Cake offers a variety of flavors, including their signature Matcha Strawberry French Mousse cake.
The cafe has a clean, nice atmosphere with ample seating, including outdoor options across the way. The service was quick, even on a Sunday afternoon when the place was relatively empty.
While the cake had a short bread crust with a frozen strawberry within the mousse, the overall taste was not overly sweet, though the matcha flavor was barely noticeable. The mousse itself was rich and creamy, though the mango flavor could have been stronger.
Overall, Yu Cake provides a decent cake experience, considering its location within a mall without a proper kitchen. However, some customers feel the prices are high compared to the quality, and that better cakes can be found at proper bakeries for a better value.
