The service was great, the lady serving us helped give us good vegetarian suggestions and even accommodated to give us veg steamed dumplings with chili oil as we really wanted to try it. But by far, the mapo tofu was our favorite. It was the perfect amount of spice. Recommend this place to vegetarians - for the really good food and great service!

Didn't know what to expect, and was a bit wary when we arrived and the place looks so unassuming and somewhat cobbled together outside seating area. The service was a bit on the cool side, but not rude. Our food was so good!

We came here but late during the Sat. Noon, we order Fried Bao; the skin is hard and chewy, we asked the servers and she replied it’s the way customers like.. .?! Does that sounds interesting??

The food is not good at all, it is not authentic shanghainess food. I could cook better than this. It is cheap though.

This is our favorite place and the best XLBs in the Bay Area. The dumplings are homemade and each one is a perfect bite with perfect seasoning with or without vinegar.

The bamboo sticky rice, bean curd appetizer, soups, noodles, and duck are also our favorite. The bamboo sticky rice is better in the restaurant than takeout.

We come here at least once a month. Truly amazing find

An unbelievably friendly, authentic meal served and prepared by experts. The food-especially the soup dumplings-were fresh and delicious, crafted with care and served with deserved pride. I haven’t experienced food or hospitality like this before and urge everyone to try this lovingly prepared, warmly served outstanding food.

Bob Ross was right about happy little accidents!

My girlfriend and I were craving soup dumplings. We were at another restaurant across the street but realized it was the wrong place. It felt so cold and dark there. So we left and ended up at XLB Kitchen, a hole in the wall, and it was the best thing ever. The place is small but has an outdoor area. The vibe was very local Chinese—a Chinese grandpa was eating at a table next to me, reading his newspaper. Love it!

The hostess greeted us at the door and immediately gave us menus and tea. The menu is simple yet it had all the classic Chinese dishes. We ordered XLB, shanghai style rice cakes, and string beans. ALL DELICIOUS.

The XLB were HUGE! Thin skin yet SO juicy. Dare I say, better than Din Tai Fung!? The plate of rice cake was a pleasant surprise too. Very tasty, not too oily, included veggies too. The string beans were a classic, maybe a little pricey.

Overall, we cleaned everything off our plates and left with full stomachs and smiles. We will be back!!
