Date Shake

The date shake was delicious as advertised! The building is about ready to crumble, the floorplan choppy and awkward. The servers were nice, but their workstation is so poorly designed that I am surprised they can get any food out of that kitchen. It's very popular and was crazy busy at 11 am. There is a large patio area out back, and that was a nice surprise.

After I arrived in Desert Hot Springs one Friday, a friend surprised me with a visit to the Windmill Market for a date shake. At first, I wasn't really sure where we were going when we pulled into the parking lot. But as we got inside, I realized we were in a neighborhood diner/restaurant and a mini market. It had all the charm and whimsy of a general store, but had an impressive selection of beverages and victuals. I found the market very useful for avoiding the lines of the grocery store or the lack of variety at convenience and drugstores.

We ordered food for lunch, chilli dogs and lasagna with date shakes to go with. Since we had another stop before going home, we asked if they had somewhere we could sit and eat. And they did! It was this charming, green, lush oasis outside in back. It seemed 20° cooler. I forgot I was in the desert for a minute. The date shake made the heat bearable. It was sweet, creamy and very satisfying. Who knew dates could be so delish and versatile? Well I honestly have no other date shake to compare that one to, but I'm willing to bet that Windmill Market makes THE BEST DATE SHAKE IN THE DESERT.

After enjoying our food and the scenery outside, we went back inside to continue looking at all the different posters and memorabilia-like items. This place was really eclectic with tons of charm. But nothing, absolutely nothing beats nice folks. The young man in the front who blended our date shake was very nice, knowledgeable and respectful and the young woman who prepared our food was warm and welcoming. This was my first visit to Windmill Market, a wonderful find on yet another one of my visits to the Low Desert. But it won't be my last ?

The wife and I had chocolate banana shake and a burrito to go. Both were fantastic and you certainly get a lot for your money. I think the place is actually called The Windmill market.

Windmill Market is the best! Lee and Joe are the best and nicest people! They truly make you feel like family. Awesome burritos and the world’s best date shakes. Worth the drive to Desert Hot Springs.
