The trio de mar is so bright and delicious, with tender squid and fish. The service was also welcoming and friendly. Definitely excited to come back!

I went today for the second time and horrible service. I had my entire meal and nobody checked on me the entire time. Not even once. Both shift leads were working tonight the girl with the bubble braid and the girl with blue hair. They were nice but it doesn’t excuse the fact that I had absolutely no help during my entire time here. It’s really disappointing as a Peruvian to go and experience this. Genuinely ruined my time and I just had really high expectations. The staff was simply talking the entire time and I basically had to yell to get someone’s attention the one time I asked for sauce. Not to mention when they brought me the sauce they spilled the entire thing all over my table and did not bring me a new one. I work in the service industry and would not want my employees acting this way if I wasn’t there so I just wanted to inform whoever the owner is and potential customers of this sad reality. I hope you guys can learn to treat customers better. The food was really really good though.

El Mono was wonderful! The food was delicious. My husband and I had the pescado a lo macho and the skewers but what really made the experience special was the service. Desiree went above and beyond—attentive, kind, and welcoming. She truly made our visit memorable! Can’t wait to come back with the whole family!

This place is unbelievably good with portions to share! The Tapado A Lo Pobre may be my new favorite comfort food in the Bay Area. We ate at the new location on 4th Street in Berkeley. We will be back often!!!

I had an aggravating experience at El Mono that left a bad taste in my mouth.The food and service were fine. I came to el mono after multiple texts urging me to come in to use expiring points and 5-15% discounts off my bill. After multiple attempts, I couldn't use any of my points or percentage discounts. It all seemed to be the classic “bait and switch” marketing con. The whole process was discouraging, aggravating, and time wasted for me, my son, and the waitress. I'm inclined to discontinue these texts notices and not come to el mono again.

This place is phenomenal! I highly recommend. The food is fresh. The portions are generous, and the Shellfish is cooked to perfection. The dinner salad was lightly dressed, crisp- really fresh. We tried the fried plantain pancakes with dipping sauce, and I could’ve eaten a whole bowl of the dipping sauce alone, it was that good.
The portions were extremely generous, and we love to eat AND we’re not tiny people.
There is literally something for everyone- gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian.
I can’t wait to come back. This will be our go to place.
PS- The staff was friendly and attentive, even though we came in 30minutes before closing. ( yes we were those people and I am so sorry!) We promise to come in earlier Next time.

Restaurantji Recommends
Wonderful food, including the Chupe de Camarones, with yummy shrimp and a delicious sauce. And of course the Miti Miti organic juice drink and the amazing lucuma ice cream!!! The service is great, and the outdoor seating is incredibly pleasant. I highly recommend this restaurant!!!
