The Junket - what an institution and survived the Great El Cerrito remodel of 2002. I never really came here in high school or later in adult life living nearby. But brought my parents here for lunch recently. They have a "Make your own sandwich" board at the deli counter. Everyone got their sandwiches and my Dad got to try one of their beers on tap. Interesting little grocery area with all types of cultural foods. Plenty of indoor seating. The sandwiches were delicious, we were all happy with our choices.

So sad to hear this beloved institution is closing at the end of December. So many great memories of their delicious food & old-school atmosphere. Thank you Junket!!

Used to be decent place for lunch and decent deli ... but now you go there order and wait for 30 minutes or more at least for one sandwich! And prices have skyrocketed! And service has gone skydived! Probably due to working people deciding such work isn't worth the meager pay! Manager needs to increase pay to get good workers on their team! I'll hold off going there for a few months and try again, I'm a regular.

This place is just very odd. But not in a bad way. Decent sandwiches at decent prices using pretty good meats and cheeses. There's a good beer selection and plenty of seating. Seems pretty popular with an older crowd. Anyways, I had the cajun turkey sandwich but I'm going to go with the headcheese next time. I like that they promote headcheese. I grew up eating it and do enjoy it in moderation.

There were five teenage boys manning the counter today and none of them interacting with customers. It's so easy to say "be right with you". There were two customers in the store. I was looking for specific german specialties and the store was half empty. Granted a pass due to covid but come on.

I've been going here like most people my whole life. Wonderful owners who I've missed during the pandemic, and a nice selection of items. The carrot salad, sadly, had departed. "We don't have it today" means actually never.

Super friendly place with yummy sandwiches. I always get the chicken salad sandwich on dutchcrunch or sourdough bread and the reuben on sweet bread or rye. They wre very consistent with the way they make it and that's critical when you're having a craving. Sandwiches come with a pickle as a bonus! This is a great place to pick up a sandwich before going on a picnic with the kiddos. Don't forget to grab a bag of chips and a dessert too. Love it!

Great place to get a sandwich. I have been there twice and I am glad I found a place that can make a decent sandwich. The sandwich has good flavor and size. They have a good selection of meats and cheese unlike other places. I really appreciate the quality. The staff is friendly. The place is clean. I have no complaints. Call ahead and skip the wait.

I have a deep nostalgic love for the Junket; it reminds me of places that my mom took me to as a kid in the 1970s ... but sadly I just can't take it any more. I usually come for a sandwich at lunch time, and they are soooo slow and disorganized. I've tried phoning in my order, but even then I always have to wait another 20+ minutes after I've arrived, and it's kind of stressful waiting because they have no clear system (like turn numbers, order numbers, order here/pay here/pick up here) and people are always milling about in confusion and it always feels like someone else is going to accidentally get my order, or my order will be sitting forgotten on their counter because I didn't know to come get it.

As a 40-year resident of the Bay I often miss Genova's... But this place is in the same echelon. Special shout-out to the always-sunny, super-friendly Mason!

I've been coming here for years, but unfortunately this deli has gone from great to awful my last three visits to the spot we're horrible ordered a sandwich over the phone showed up a half hour after making the call had to wait an additional 15 minutes, 45 minutes to make one sandwich is just too goddamn long The next visit I was charged $12.95 for a cheese sandwich and a tiny container of Mac salad, the sandwich normally runs $6.75 my last visit was my favorite as I was standing in line to pay for a sandwich I ordered over the phone the guy at the register looked up at me and made eye contact as if he was wondering if I needed help, I politely said I'm here to pick up a phone order, and he told me " You are going to have to wait" as if I was out of line or some thing, the staff here is made up of a cluster of hipsters or dungeon Masters not sure which one, that provides super slow and not so friendly service, my guess is this deli is not going to last much longer at the rate that they are going ... I'm hoping somebody buys you guys out and turns you into a Taqueria lol

Unfortunately, this place was out of many items I usually buy there, like European type bread and other items like sausages, etc.
