I dropped by Copper Mug tonight and was blown away. From the moment I walked in, the owner—and former distributor turned hospitality magician—welcomed us with warmth, charm, and genuine hospitality. One Yelp reviewer described Kay as ā€œincredibly friendly and loves talking to folks,ā€ and I totally agree—he took the time to chat with everyone, cracking jokes and sharing the story behind Copper Mug ļæ¼.

šŸ» Unbelievable Beer & Cocktail Selection
With over 20 beers on tap—including rotating craft brews to-go—and cocktails that are lovingly crafted, it’s a paradise for anyone who appreciates quality pours ļæ¼. Their Moscow Mule in a copper mug was ice-cold, bracing, and perfectly balanced—the kind of drink that makes you appreciate the small details.

šŸ½ļø Excellent Food
We tried a bit of everything: Indian-inspired samosas, Mississippi catfish, momos, and fries. Each dish was flavorful and skillfully prepared. One Yelp user proclaimed it ā€œthe best samosa I’ve EVER hadā€ ļæ¼. I second that. The fusion of Indian, Southern Cajun, and American comfort cuisine is done with finesse—spicy, seasoned, and satisfying in every bite.

šŸŽÆ Final Word
Copper Mug hits on all cylinders: an owner who’s genuinely glad you’re there, an outrageous drink list perfect for craft‑beer lovers and cocktail fans alike, and food that’s bold, flavorful, and served with flair. If you haven’t been yet, it’s time to change that. This place is exactly what El Sobrante needed—and more.

yes tell the truth

To begin with, the bar seemed indecisive about the type of food they wanted to offer/ cater (American, Asian & catfish?) which are order thru different vendors within the same building. Our waitress took an excessive amount of time to take our order, and it took an additional 30 minutes to bring us a single appetizer—the bread. They knew we had ordered food but failed to provide napkins, even after we asked for some. I wouldn't recommend coming here, especially since drinks average $20. During happy hour, they didn’t apply the $2 discount to each drink, and when I pointed it out, the waitress mentioned they decide who receives the discount. This wasn't what was mentioned on the menu. You might as well go to Applebee's, where they actually pay attention to all their customers, not just the regulars, because for a party of two, they only focused on one of us for the ordering everything. Despite having a total of eight people, it took them from 5:10 to 7:00 to serve our food and drinks and they messed up the order. To top it off, I found hair not only in my drink but also in my food.

FINALLY!! A new, local, fun place to come to!! Unique cocktails and a long beer list on tap. Very friendly and comfortable atmosphere. Serving a mix of Indian fare and bar food. I hear they have an open mic comedy night too. Will have to try that next time.

We finally got to try this new resto/bar in our neighborhood. And we were not disappointed! Kay (the owner) is simply amazing. We loved everything we ordered, from the samosa chaat, to the tasty cocktails and local beers. We will definitely be back!

I went for the music and comedy open mic night. They suggested the chicken tikka masala and I’m so glad they did; it may have been the best I ever had. The margarita was perfect. Everyone was so nice, to the point that they brought out birthday cakes for 2 different people celebrating (did they just happen to have two extra cakes?)

Kay did a great job renovating the place. It's now a lovely lounge that brings the neighborhood together. There's open mic every other Friday and live music sporadically. Nothing like it, in the area.

A fun new iteration of a long-standing food & drink location in El Sobrante. Craft cocktails and Indian food--it makes complete and total sense if you're from this part of the East Bay. The owner/bartender is friendly and welcoming and you'd be surprised how complex and refreshing a well-made mule can be. The chicken Tikka came out nice and hot and well-seasoned. The samosa was a meal in itself and even had a little kick from both the seasoning and the accompanying mint and tamarind sauces. I'm also happy that they are able to keep Mississippi Catfish around as I've followed them from Richmond to here when it became Champions and now Copper Mug. My kids enjoyed their mango lassis, which themselves were made with real yogurt and seasoned, making them more than just a smoothie. Looking forward to coming back again!
