The waitress was super friendly and attentive to our table, she seems to know a lot of customers by name. Great service, the gyoza skin is thin and the fillings were packed, not like little filling with a lot of skin. Ramen selection are classic and tasty broth

My food was too salty. Pork was dry. Fried too much. Chicken karaage was too salty.

My family and I had a wonderful dining experience here. The food was absolutely delicious, but what made the experience especially memorable was the outstanding service and attention that Ada provided. She was so kind to our family and even spent time interacting with our 17 month old baby. Thank you so much to Ada for your kindness and thank you Tanuki for an incredible meal!

We got put on a waitlist. Waited 20+ mins then checked our queue. Turns out they gave our seat to someone else claiming to be us with a different party size. Then they allowed the other party to stay and we had to wait even longer even though we were the ones on the waitlist.

My team and I went to eat there for lunch and were surprised by how so much of the food is handmade with care by Steve. He came out and explained a lot of things to us about the food.! It was such a good time that I went again for dinner to try the Ramen since we didn’t have that. The curry was so creamy. Everything was yummy… oishi!!!

Tanuki is a neighborhood gem and if you blink, you will miss it! Located in the strip next to Nugget off of Elk Grove Blvd, it is by far the best izakaya in Elk Grove. If you’re coming here looking for sushi then you are in the wrong place. After all, there is much more to Japanese cuisine than sushi like yakitori, which is featured at Tanuki! Skewers of chicken, pork, and seafood grilled over imported bincho and dipped in an aged ta-re(mother sauce), which chef Steven has perfected over the last 5 years and beyond.
There is much to like about the restaurant, food obviously was delicious. I’d recommend for dinner dining izakaya style with multiple appetizers to share like the karaage, agedashi tofu, yakitori, fried oysters, and finishing off with ramen or curry. They have a large selection of beverages to choose from and I can’t wait to go back and dive into their imported beer and sake selection.
Ambience and Service was on point. Servers knew the menu and gave us great recommendations for an enjoyable meal. Lastly it was nostalgic walking into the restaurant and being greeted with a Tanuki (raccoon) and the image of the Dotonbori bridge in Osaka, one of my favorite cities to visit.

A true hidden gem. We stopped in on a trip down 99/5 at random, and we will now come back anytime we have the chance. Our party ordered across the board, ramen, curry, the works... and it was all fantastic. The pork in the ramen was some of the best I've had, and the flavors were perfect.

Tonight was our very first time eating at Tanuki! Ada, you were everything and more as our server! You went above and beyond! I’m talking possibly the best server in EG folks! She suggested the ramen ? I had! I have never, and I mean never eaten an entire bowl of ramen! Every single component of their ramen, the broth, the pork belly, the egg (omg, the egg was so amazing & I don’t like eggs) the bamboo shoots, the cabbage! I couldn’t get enough, and from here on I will only eat Tanuki ramen! My husband had the chicken curry katsu, our son had the Wagyu skewers and a fried chicken. We started off with a cucumber salad and edamame. I would suggest this Ramen restaurant to any and all! We can’t wait to come back for more.

The best Japanese food I've ever had. Top-notch Kobe beef, huge ramen bowls. Excellent gyoza and tempura. Large selection of imported sodas, beer and wine.
Excellent service. Cozy, intimate dining room w/sushi bar seating.
