For all you vegan lactose intolerant people, here's a place you need to bookmark because this is your holy grail for lactose free ice cream that tastes as good as it's going to get. Mocha Chip: Least favorite as the mocha to me tasted like a weird powdered chocolate rather than any mocha flavor, and I didn't taste any chips at all. Strawberry: Great Strawberry flavor, would highly recommend this one. Cold brew coffee: Again with the weird aftertaste and lacking a true coffee flavor. Tastes very chalky powder like. Banana Nut: Interesting and good banana flavor with a decent amount of nuts. There's the flavors, so it's up to you now to try and decide.

Mr. Dewie's is in the Emeryville Public Market. They are an all natural, dairy free ice cream shop. The worker was very nice and we tried a few flavors. I got a double scoop of mocha chip and caramel almond crunch. I found the texture moderately smooth enough for a dairy free ice cream. The caramel almond crunch flavor was ok. I didn't care for the mocha chip. I didn't taste any mocha flavor. All I tasted was cashew. My son got the Oreo cookie. It was meh. It had a strong coconut flavor. It was also on the pricey side. If you're lactose intolerant, you may find this shop can help satisfy your ice cream needs. Sadly with the overpowering cashew flavor, it didn't satisfy mine.

Came across this place while having dinner at the public market in emeryville. I loved the concept of cashew ice cream, it felt like a healthier alternative to regular ice cream so I gave it a go! The employee was so sweet, taking her time talking through all the flavors with me and letting me try any and all flavors I desired lol I ended up getting their matcha and specialty flavor and it was such a yummy pairing! I'll definitely go back and even try their other locations

Mr. Dewie's Cashew Creamery sells ice creams made of cashew milk. If you have a lactose intolerance, or allergy, this is definitely your place; and even if you don't, I think you still will like these frozen treats. The Emeryville location is a food court at public market with window service and amble seating. Expect to pay higher than dairy ice cream costs (like $6 a scoop). The texture of the ice cream is very creamy (I did not notice the gritty issue other mention here). I loved the flavors like banana nut, and rocky road, as they highlight the nut milk base. I did not like the mint, or many of the fruit flavored cashew ice creams because they're notably off-tasting. They offer free samples, it's good to taste them before you decide.

But Mr Dewie's is not made of dairy and IT'S GOOD!!! It's creamy, tasty and generally amazing! At first I thought I was eating a dairy product , but it's not. It is made of cashews! It's not made of cream or milk! If you are lactose intolerant like most blog the human race, this is the place to go. Try it you will be amazed!

I have been wanting to try this place for a while since I am lactose intolerant and this place didn't disappoint. This place is located in the Public Market where you can hang out and eat other food, and there is free parking conveniently located nearby. Among a bunch of stalls, this Ice Cream stand is located, similar to a food court or LA's Grand Central Market except lacking the crowds and the historic stalls. When we arrived at this ice cream stall, we were happily greeted by a server who was very friendly and knowledgeable about the products, as well as gave us a lot of recommendations and explained the different Ice Creams as we sampled them. From the samples and suggestions, we ordered a double scoop of the Golden Spice and Ultra Matcha. The Golden Spice had a nice flavor that melded well with the Ultra Matcha like our server suggested. The Golden Spice had spice similar to Chai and had a similar taste to Golden Milk Tea that gave it a sweet spice flavor that was thankfully not too sweet. The Ultra Matcha thankfully had a Matcha taste. It didn't skimp on the Matcha like some places do. It was also not too bitter. It was a very light bitterness that is evened out by this light Coconut taste probably from the Coconut Milk. As for the Ice Cream itself, it had a texture that is basically similar to Ice Cream that could easily fool you if you didn't know it was vegan and was really good. It was the first time we have tried so many vegan Ice Creams at once since they usually have a limited menu for vegan Ice Cream at other places. Overall, the customer service was great and Ice Cream was delicious. Definitely coming again and would have those flavors again.

Some, like matcha, are naturally not going to be super smooth - but this is to be expected because of the ingredients. Also it's not cows milk ice cream so I would never expect it to have the exact same texture as cows milk ice cream. For vegan ice cream I think it is EXCELLENT, and I love the variety of flavors and that there are always specials. I especially love the turmeric spice, strawberry, and coffee flavors -- but really, every one I've tried has been delicious (and I like that it's not too sweet). Also, the staff has always been very kind and helpful. Thanks Mr. Dewie's for providing us dairy free folks with such amazing cold treats!

A lot of ice cream joints, offer, vegan options but few go beyond sorbets and one or two basic flavors. Mr. Dewey's goes the full Monty, with lots of unique flavors, as well as traditional ones. Especially fond of mixing the golden turmeric flavor with another less exotic taste, like banana walnut, for a real treat.
