La Especial Norte is an iconic restaurant with eclectic Mexican decor. The food is almost always excellent. The parrilla and tortilla soup are recommended, but avoid going late towards closing as some dishes might not be up to par. The guacamole, chips, and salsa stand out as particularly enjoyable. The burritos are HUGE and the carne asada tacos are incredible. The carnitas are maybe the best ever had, perfectly crispy and moist. The platter is unbelievable quality and can feed a family of 4 easily. The chicken rice soup is the best in San Diego county. The parking is restrictive and access difficult but worth the struggle!
