I got a glazed donut here while on vacation just over a year ago, and I've never been quite the same. I still dream about that donut. Every donut shop I've tried since that day has been a disappointment. Be careful this place is seriously good.

This is our regular donut shop. Donuts are delicious and keep for days. The owner is the best part of this shop though, so friendly and kind!

Fantastic in every way! This place not only has the best donuts around (and always has), but the owners are amazing. They make you feel so welcome. Always smiling, joking, making for a great start to the day.

Donut Series, Part 15
“I need a little sweetness in my life. Sugar, yes please!”

Why does it seem like sometimes your body craves something that only an infusion of sugar can satisfy? While I may not know why that happens, I can tell you that donuts sure seem like a great option when you find yourself in this predicament!

The owners of “Leucadia Donut Shoppe” have been fulfilling these needs for North County San Diegans for more than 30 years. I heard that this husband and wife team put their kids through college one ? at a time, so I had to ask them if this local legend is accurate. The husband laughed, told me that it is true, but also confided that the donut gravy train wasn’t entirely sufficient and needed to be supplemented by student loans.

I was also curious about how the interior walls came to be covered by the photos of so many different patrons. He explained that initially they placed a few family pics on the wall and found that customers wanted to get in on the action themselves (which led to the bumper sticker contributions that now entirely cover their front windows).

If you choose to visit while in search of a sugar fix, I think you’ll find this to be one of the friendliest places to enjoy a donut. A little advice though: bring cash (that’s all they accept) and get here as early as you can. While their advertised closing time is 1:00, on the day we visited most of the donuts had been claimed by 9:00 (and by 10:00 they were down to their last dozen). If you find yourself unable to finish everything, not to worry. Even the birds are friendly here and they’d be more than happy to assist you in finishing whatever you’ve ordered.

And that’s
Henry’s Take.

Owner is dishonest, charges you whatever he wants and claims it's an honest mistake if you question him. Happens every time, so not a mistake. Donuts are just ok.

Leucadia Donuts is my favorite donut shop anywhere. Tom and Emily run a truly awesome family operation that produces the best donuts and most customer smiles I have ever experienced. I grew up where Dunkin Donuts was started and Leucadia puts them to shame. Brace yourself for some lines on many days ( it’s worth it to wait) and disappointment if you get there too late and whatever you do don’t take that last pink donut it’s mine .
