Wow! This place rocks! Every single thing we are was amazing. The service is great. This town is so cute. Highly recommend
This place used to be our go to for sushi but not anymore after today. Shockingly cold and dismissive service by our waiter. We watched her treat the other nearby tables with hospitality and grace but not us. Everyone else got waters but we had to wait a full 20 minutes after being seated to get ours (even though I specifically asked for water). She cheerfully asked her other tables how was their food and made suggestions about the menu to them. But could barely bother to stop by our table and wouldn’t make eye contact. I wonder if she assumed my husband and I wouldn’t be generous tippers because we rolled in looking a bit dusty and sweaty having just finished a hike. Despite the discriminatory treatment, we tipped well on the assumption that the wait staff divvies and shares their tip.
As regulars at Village Sake, we have only ever had excellent service but this waiter is new (we haven’t seen her before). I hope the restaurant figures it out quick that this member of their staff needs better training.
The other bummer was the food. Overly enthusiastic use of chili crisp which overpowered all the other flavors. Quality of the fish in their nigiri has gone down. Tempura portions have shrunk.
We will not be coming back.
Food is amazing but the service was terrible. Very rude and dismissive.
Everything was amazing! We went in willing to try anything new and we were not disappointed. We signed up for our table online which was great for a Saturday night. We had the citrus salmon roll, tuna crunch roll, miso salad (amazing dressing) and smoked hamachi app (my fav). The service was great everyone was friendly and the food was not a long wait. We are so glad we tried this place out and this will be one of our favorites in the area! Worth the drive yum!!
After eating here, you can no longer enjoy Japanese food any place else. Truly stunning.
Food and service all A+. No wonder it’s so popular! Special spot in a fun area of Fairfax.
Great food, bad experience. We ordered 6 items off the menu. One of our plates never arrived at our table and when we alerted our server he immediately informed the manager who frankly did not believe us. She asked us three times if we were sure we didn't get it, which we were sure we did not. She then said she would fire our sushi entree again. But after waiting 30 minutes and it never came we paid our bill and left. We even planned on ordering more. As someone who has worked in restaurants, I completely understand dishes getting made and being brought to the wrong party, but get us our missing dish promptly without asking us multiple times if we are sure we didn't eat it already. Frankly, the whole experience was insulting. Poor management.
We loved that restaurant, but we will surely never be back.

Arrogant establishment that refuses to take reservations. Not worth the 1 hour wait on the road in the cold. If they cared about their customers they'd get a reservation system.

Poor service at the sushi bar. We had a reservation and opt’ed to sit at the bar because it was available right then. Waiter acknowledged us sitting down and then never came back. Saw another couple get seated at the bar and served both drinks and food before our order was taken.

The food here is amazing however, the service did make almost every mistake possible. We were seated in a far corner on a tiny table with 3 people. Absolutely no room for our food. Certain items were brought out at random times and one order took 23 minutes to be brought to the table. Then we were given the wrong check to cap it all off. Despite the poor service, the food here is quite splendid.

Wonderful place. As is with all eateries a bit pricey. I would return regularly were I a nearby resident.

Wow. I’ve never had a meal this meticulously designed and delicious. Everything was amazing! Everything we ordered came out warm and fresh. The asparagus in black sesame was a huge hit and the duck skewers were so succulent and juicy. Get the miso black cod, it is cooked to perfection.
Vegetarian options: Limited but outstanding veg menu. Eggplant was incredible.

No-nonsense popular spot Village Sake is the downtown Fairfax’s spot for sushi rolls and Japanese classics but if you take the time to explore more deeply beyond the deep fried or flame torched sushi rolls, there are some surprising gems. I loved the Kabocha tempura mixed with deep fried shishito peppers and green beans and the Wagyu beef tartare is a steal at $24 for such flavorful and quality beef.
The omakase nigiri at $60 for 7 pieces is on the pricier side but the selection is solid and it’s cheaper than ordering a la carte.
Overall, tasty and satisfying Japanese meal in a part of town where there are less options. Dining is indoor only and there are no reservations. All credit cards including Amex are accepted.
