The food in this restaurant is weird. I had 2 Carne Asada street tacos for $18 and not good. Seemed high but the menu was bizarre the only other taco choice was smoked goat! Yep Goat!! No Chicken no Fish just Smoked Goat!! Walking up to the front of the restaurant it looks like a massage parlor, old fashioned curtains and very dark, not welcoming. I think if the menu doesn’t get a make over they’re going to have a hard time.

The mushroom door was outstanding. Excellent flavors, very authentic. Blacken Chicken was perfectly charred on the outside and very moist inside. All of the dishes are so adorable. Pleasantly unique.

Doug, the gentle giant, was what made our dinner memorable.
He talked so fast, but everything he said was true and tasted incredible.
It’s a strange phenomenon to walk through a Folsom suburb parking lot and walk into a restaurant that will one day make a case for a Michelin star. One day
It’s controversial
It’s mysterious
It owns the rare and justified title of high end Mexican food.
But the food will make you smile as you nod in agreement with the person you met eyes with.
And you will immediately start thinking of an excuse to come back
Our must tries:
Beef tartar
Barbecue oysters
Cesar salad
Octopus Tlacoyo
40 oz bone in ribeye

Too rich for my blood, I like the concept. Portions are lacking for the price.

We were listening to CapRadio last Wednesday and heard Benji Egel, the SacBee food editor talk about Cantina Pedegral and how it was easily the best restaurant in the greater Sacramento area. We decided that it was the perfect place to go for our 53rd anniversary lunch. We were blown away how great the food was. Warning. This is not the usual chips and salsa, enchiladas, burritos Mexican restaurant that you can get anywhere. This is an upscale, fine dining Mexican restaurant with two Michelin rated chefs that will give you a taste experience like nothing you have ever had. We split a mushroom sopa with Mitake mushrooms with a delicate salsa macha sauce on a white and blue cornmeal shell. We both had Cabrito tacos made with braised goat and grilled onion. Both of these choices were to die for. Rochelle, our hostess, was very good and extremely knowledgeable. She made the food recommendations for us because we had no idea what to order. (She loves to cook too.) The decor is casual elegance. The entire wall in the left side is filled with different kinds of Tequila and Mezcal. It is pricey but well worth it if you love really good food.

What a vibe!!! The food is excellent!!! The drinks were so delightful and we cannot wait to go back! So happy to see a restaurant like this in the region! You MUST try the refried beans!!!! OMG life altering flavor! We had the chips and guacamole and salsa!! Yum yum yum! The chips are made with their organic corn in house!!! Hoy crap they were good and we enjoyed the beets, cauliflower, red snapper, and the beans and rice! I’m coming back for the carnitas!!!!!! With more people!
Vegetarian options: The cauliflower, Brussels, and beets were all fantastic!! The chips and guacamole and salsa were fab!!! And they have more options as well

I highly recommend this place if you are willing to step outside your comfort zone a little bit and to trust the incredible chefs and staff here. This food is an amazing mix of small colorful plates with incredible authentic flavors from Monterey, Mexico. The portions are large and sharable, but presented in a gorgeous way.

Had high expectations and was pretty disappointed. We started with the chips and salsa. Chips were extremely bland and flavorless. Had one of the stews and salads. The pork stew had one flavor, extreme spice, lacking any complexity of flavor. The salad with goddess dressing was bland. Cocktails were nothing special too. Zocalo, El Popular, etc all have better Margaritas. I think this restaurant will struggle to be around in two years. It was a Saturday night, bar was near empty, dining room at 80%, and it is still fairly new. It’s trying to be too cute and fancy (even using Tock for reservations, really?!) and lacks just good Mexican food that people crave. You can be contemporary by still having relevant items on the menu.

Delicious unique food. Great service.
First time here and not too impressed. Wine pours were on the short side, food was slow
In coming despite not busy and overpriced. Too many other eateries around to make coming back a priority.
The food was okay but not what I expected. The aguachiles tasted sweet, and the sweet potato did not come with chorizo as the menu say it. We got the Cesar salad and the actual dressing was missing a lot of.flavor plus it had peanuts. The beer was very good as well.as the octopus. The salsas were very good as well.

Wow. We walked in for a last minute family dinner on a Tuesday night. Craving something yummy but expecting to be disappointed, as has unfortunately been the case with most of the Mexican restaurants we have been to in a 20 mile radius. We had a look at the menu. Did not see anything kid related and were about to politely take our leave. A very kind and patient wait person told us about the kid menu. And then went on to explain the rest of the menu for us. The food was unique, beyond tasty and satisfying. The cocktails were great. The quality of the kids menu alone is worth the trip. The only Mexican restaurant I will go to moving forward.
