Waited almost 20 min standing in line for a tea and croissant in the display case. Nice place, good atmosphere, food was good but way too slow for a quick bite.

Ordered 2 coffees and it took 20 minutes just to get them. I understand if a place is busy, but just for 2 coffees to go is unacceptable.

Saw they had chillequilles on their menu (even checked out the website menu) but they do not… was pretty bummed. Other food was fine!

Been coming here for well over 20 years. Never disappointed when we come. Cakes are good, lunch salads are awesome, coffee great, and pastries are always on point.
Only critique is drinks are slow sometimes but never disappointing.

A Truly Delightful Spot — Karen’s Bakery
Karen’s Bakery has become one of my favorite places to visit, and I find myself going back regularly. There’s something so welcoming and comforting about this bakery — from the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with warmth, the sweet aroma of freshly baked goods, and a sense of calm that makes it feel like a little sanctuary in the middle of the day.
I especially love sitting outside. The seating area is charming and peaceful, perfect for enjoying a quiet morning with a cup of coffee or an afternoon treat. It’s one of those rare spots where you can watch the world go by, relax, and really savor the moment.
The baked goods are consistently outstanding. Every pastry, muffin, and loaf I’ve tried has been fresh, flavorful, and lovingly prepared. You can tell the staff care deeply about quality and presentation. The coffee is also excellent — rich, smooth, and perfectly paired with any of the bakery treats.
Beyond the food, what makes Karen’s Bakery truly special is the staff and atmosphere. Everyone is friendly, attentive, and genuinely happy to serve you. It’s a place where regulars are remembered by name, and new visitors immediately feel welcome. The overall vibe is cozy, uplifting, and heartwarming.
Whether you’re stopping by for a quick pastry, lingering with coffee, or meeting friends for a relaxed chat outside, Karen’s Bakery is a place that always feels inviting and special. I can’t recommend it highly enough — it’s a little gem that brightens your day every time you visit.

Extremely disappointed with their lack of communication and organization. My husband and I had gotten our wedding cake from here and my parents had also bought a fruit tart at the same time and really loved it. Every time my parents come up to Sacramento, my dad is raving about the tart however, the days they come, the place is normally closed And or we don’t call in advance. This one time that I decided to reach out on November 7 to request a fruit tart for the day before Thanksgiving. I had been told that they needed to figure out what size I needed to feed at least eight people and that I would be contacted the week of November 10. The week came and went and when I finally realized I hadn’t gotten a call, it was November 15. I called and left a voicemail and did not receive another call until November 18. They left me a voicemail saying they were waiting on me to tell them when I needed them by even though I had already told the person during the first call on November 7 when I wanted it by. I waited again and called again on November 20 and left another voicemail. Finally, someone called me back and told me that because it was so close to Thanksgiving, their person was overwhelmed. Understandable however if they had taken my order from November 7, they would’ve definitely had enough time to plan for creating the tart requested.
My husband had also called them and was told that they weren’t making fruit tarts because it was seasonal where that was not the information that I was initially communicated. What I was told was they needed to figure out three size and made no mention of it being something not in their season. The supposedly had told him they called me and left me a voicemail telling me that however what they told me was their baker was overwhelmed by how many orders they already had.
What the real answer is, who knows! I am extremely disappointed with the way that this was handled and will not be providing them any more business nor recommending them to any family or friends. We are going to try out an another bakery called Pastry Heaven. So far, they have already taken our order even though it’s less than a week notice.

First time visiting. We drive by it often and finally decided to go. We ordered the quiche and the brioche breakfast sandwich. We sat on the patio which was nice. The wait to recieve our order was not bad. Where it started going downhill was when they brought our food. They bought a breakfast burrito, which the server took back to confirm the order. She returned a couple of minutes later confirming they made the wrong dish. Not a big deal as mistakes can happen. We proceeded to wait 20 min with still nothing brought to us, while I ate the quiche. The quiche was good, but because I thought my husband's item would be out in about 5 min, I waited to eat it. My husband encouraged me to eat while it was still slightly warm. I was not a fan of the potatoes. My husband tired of waiting for his brioche so he asked for a refund for his item, and they provided one.
My feedback to this restaurant is when you make the wrong dish and everyone else is served, the wrong dish is expedited so the one person isn't sitting there waiting for their order. Very disappointing, and we do not plan to return.

The toffee chocolate chip cookies are really delicious here 🤤 I usually buy a dozen and freeze for later. Had the eggs Florentine today and wasn't into it as it was so much egg without much flavor. Disappointing at $20. Their deli salads are fantastic as are their pastries. My fave is their orzo salad, yum! Staff are very friendly and there is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Warm vibe overall with plants.

The food is ok, although, $21 for eggs Benedict, is like I’m having breakfast at a manhattan diner. Service is almost absent: if reminded several times, your order will be provided, if reminded again, you’ll get utensils. The place though, is atmospheric and cozy.

This is a great place with several great vegan options for breakfast or lunch! I had the avocado sourdough toast and fruit cup. It's so close to the American River Bike Trail and Lake Natoma.
